I watched that this morning, talked about folks paying 5k or more out of pocket because they were afraid of rates going up or getting cancelled. I got cancelled a couple of years ago got a speeding ticket 77mph in a 65mph zone. 2 years later insurance cancelled me, no rate in crease just cancelled no accidents in 30some years with the same company. Agent was absolutely no help.
I just got dropped a few weeks ago because I have an active exterior construction project that will not be completed by the time of renewal in January. I've been in the same house for 20yrs and have added on several times without issue. Now suddenly it's a problem, I guess. Found a new carrier already but when I was calling around, some places wouldn't even consider us because we have a functional wood burning fireplace that wasn't a concern from 1931 to Dec of '24.

Dude that is kind of what happened to me. They sent the beginning of the year escrow analysis and said it was short by $350 and if I paid it before teh deadline they wouldn't increase my rate and my monthly payment would stay the same otherwise it would be prorated over 12mo. Not a huge dollars right, just to be safe I paid in advance and paid $400 (so if anything my payment should've went down with the recalc and just more to principal). Those cock suckers still raised my rate and told me there was nothing they could do until another analysis was done the following year.... I went to war with those bastards over it and to them they were like bro this is crazy over like a $12 increase. I said no what is crazy is I followed your letter to a T, which at that time you redo another analysis but then tell me I can't get another analysis until next year, tired of this predatory shit and the fact that you hold an add'l two months in escrow bc you can legally and you do it for "shortages and pitfalls" and then I do what you say and you can't pull from that bucket of money. Fuck you, I will remove escrow totally. They tried three times to get me to stop cancelling the escrow process.
Someone is getting rich - it's not us.

Insurance is a basic human need. In fact, it is required by law in many situations. To permit 'for profit' companies to administer that insurance is the problem. It is not this way in other countries - just this one.
Yep. See it every day in my line of work. Tag big pharma into the problem too. Good times.

Another former USAA auto Insurance customer here. They were great with handling the single claim I made in the last 20 years but their premiums are now much higher than their competition. I am currently at State Farm.

Hate to say it but I am pretty sure all TREMORS have cell or modem technology built in the truck, and Ford gets paid big bucks to foreword that data to your insurance company. If you disable it, it forces an immediate MIL light. Asked the dealer what's up. They said most TREMORS get all of their computer updates over the air using this. And I can confirm this, my truck has never been back to the dealer, but the software version has been updated (different rev number) since I bought the truck. Bad part of this, if a cop points the disable gun at your truck and activates it, throw you $90,000 truck in the garbage. No one will reactivate the systems.

From my understanding having lived in Houston and now west Texas, insurance is impacted and the love is shared regardless if you are directly impacted. For instance, if a hurricane hits Florida, premiums go up across all gulf coast states. I was dumbfounded on why my home owners is 3x and vehicle is 2x in west Texas than Alaska, where I came from. Unfortunately, west texas gets a lot of hail so the love is again shared.

Other side note for Texas, there are a lot of uninsured motorists running around and seemingly get into wrecks. This also drives up the premiums.
Uninsured motorists getting into crashes is a huge cost driver, and the numbers have soared over the last few years, as has the number of unlicensed drivers. I used to see them occasionally and now see them almost daily. They know there’s no significant penalty for them, so they continue.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post but I don't believe it's entirely accurate. There are plenty of people here and on other SD forums who have removed the modem fuse and are driving around just fine.

I am the original technology retard, so this may be a dumb question, but won’t removing that fuse prevent infotainment system updates that are necessary to keep up with the constant phone software updates? I’m not interested in communicating anything to Ford, but I do want my phone to work through the infotainment system. If that’s not at risk, where’s the fuse?

Cool idea. I suspect that technology may exist someday.

Huge EMP-based vehicle disabling systems already exist. They’re huge, insanely expensive, heavy, and require a pickup truck or larger vehicle to deploy, but some of them will disable a modern computer-dependent vehicle from as much as 200 yards away. There are a few applications where that’s useful, but if they ever develop an affordable, portable, “disabling gun” police agencies will gobble them up like hotcakes, as pursuits are extremely dangerous and, often, very expensive.

A word of caution regarding premiums. If an insurance company quotes significantly lower rates, be careful. NO insurance company is in business to lose money. Before switching, I would ask for the policy and then read it very carefully.

Recently I looked around for cheaper homeowners’ insurance and thought I found one. What I found out about the company was a nightmare example of fine print. Turns out the company has a provision in the policy that states all construction and repair work related to the incident referenced in the claim needs to be completed with180 days of the initial clam file date. The policy holders were victims of a hurricane. As you can guess, finding a contractor and then getting everything repaired within 180 days was near impossible given the scope of the natural disaster. Oh yes, and then you may also have to deal with another provision noting that you agree to binding arbitration and you can’t sue in court. I’m sure many of us have had insurance companies force body shops to use cheap knock off parts instead of OEM on our damaged vehicles. This all goes to say be very careful and then read fine print. Polices are written to protect the insurance companies. They are not written for you.

I will be significantly raising my deductibles this year. Insurance is quickly becoming an option only rich people can afford. In a somewhat ironic twist, premiums reflect the cost of life. The higher the cost of supplies and labor the higher premiums go.

Over the air updates started in 22MY. I’ve been a police officer for 23 years, what’s a disable gun? Never heard of such a thing,

Lol. Yes, but those updates are pretty few and far between. You could just reinstall the fuse when you know there's one available and then pull it again after the update.

If you search 'modem fuse' here on the site, you'll find all the details you need along w plenty of discussion weighing the pros and cons.

I had to remove the wood burning cook stove from my cabin to get insurance when we bought the place a yeat ago..I could not find any company that would insure it with the stove. The stove was from the late 40s and needed to go anyways...but it could have been a real PIA if we wanted to keep it.

On another note is anyone likes laying on there back in the dirt in a tiny crawl space installing propane line holler at your boy.. :ROFLMAO:

Is it in a flood plain? If so what do you expect them to do? Honest question. Statistically stuff in flood plains will eventually flood and be a massive claim. You’re going to be charged for that risk. If there wasn’t a “one and done” claim I expect it would be even higher. You can self insure or pay out your personal risk annually.

Now if they charged folks outside a flood plain to subsidize the risk of those in a flood plain that would be shitty.
It's been in flood plain since before the flood plain was established...Somebody from the government comes along and draws a line on a map and I get charged a ridiculous amount.
What makes it even more ridiculous is the parcel, 70 acres, the cabin sits on appraises for 6x what the cabin does and I have 38% LTV ratio....Straight up corporate robbery.
