Lariat vs. Platinum

I had a 17' 350 Platinum, then a 19' 450 King Ranch, now a 21' Lariat Tremor. What I miss are the small details that are unique to the premium trucks. As simple as they are, they make a difference to me. The Platinum uses aluminum instead of silver plastic for the A/C vents and center console trim. The King Ranch had a color matched interior. The steering wheel, console, headliner were all dk brown, and they both used real wood in their trim. It's up to you if little details make a difference or not. I was adamant not to get a sun roof and painted bumpers again. Those are the only reason I'm in a Lariat.

My honest take; the best package is the lariat, the trim looks a bit better on the Platinum but the seats don't get better than those on the XLT.

Ford's always used crap leather in their seats, never more so than now, but with the advent of cushion air conditioning, suddenly the foam needs to allow airflow; this means the foam is full of holes and will age accordingly. The XLT doesn't have this option, so the foam is solid and should last a while longer. Those of us with the 'premium' seats will find they're ready for replacement in just a few years, maybe less if you're particularly heavy set.
Is heavy set code for fat?

Truth be told, only reason i am getting a Tremor in the F250 is because it's required to combine with the Lariat Ult. to get the PWR Running boards.

only real reason i selected the Tremor option was to get the power running boards which are standard on the Plati.

Are you sure you need the Tremor package for power running boards? According to the online builder (admittedly for 21MY, not 22MY) only the Ultimate package is needed for power running boards. Tremor has nothing to do with it.

And should have just looked at the order guide first. Power running boards can’t be added with the Black Appearance Package (and some other packages) unless the Tremor package is also selected. That’s dumb.

Correct, that's a 22MY thing. My argument was the same as yours but the 2021 Order Guide was different which is what the current Ford.com configurator allows you to build.

I would be getting the platinum for the softer seats if I wasn't lariat value package poor. Way more comfy than my 17' lariat seats imo. Also more comfy than new denali, high country and ram limited I've driven recently. I also really liked the little details and touches on the 21' platty I test drove.

This is exactly the kind of thing I have been reading but can't find any literature from Ford that the Platinum seats are in any way upgraded over the Lariat aside from the massagers. Is it better leather? Different design? "softer" foam? I have been in both and can't help but feel i am overlooking something as i didn't notice a difference but i also wasn't looking for one.

Having chosen to go with the platinum myself as one of the very first to hit my area( NE Ohio), i quickly hated not having the option to black out. But all in all ive greatly enjoyed putting these touches together myself, only thing im still having issues with is the damn chrome window seals. HOwever i came across this build the other day, and its a sharp looking lariat.

I found the KR and Platinum seats to be considerably softer foam. You kind of settle into them as opposed to sit on top of them. No empirical evidence on that, but trying them all out ad nauseum before I ordered made it clear - to me at least - that there is definitely a difference. Possibly related to the active motion seats? All Platinums come with those, as does the KR Ultimate Package trim.

Not sure that reason alone commands the price delta between those trims, but it was certainly something I factored into my decision.

I have know complaints with my Lariats, seats, however I wish they had the massaging option (Love them is my wife's Lincoln) or you could get a Platinum with the black appearance package.

There is no black appearance package for the platinum or this thread wouldn't exist haha.

Eh I probably would still get Lariat. When I priced out a King Ranch it was around five thousand dollars more for as close to the same config as possible (other than the black appearance package), and that’s strictly for appearance changes.

I’m getting a pretty loaded Lariat so I found it interesting the King Ranch ended up so much more expensive.

(FWIW I was pricing them out with X-Plan in case that makes a difference, though I don’t think it would.)

After all this, I am 95% sure I am going with the Rapid Red Lariat, Black Appearance, Lariat Ult. Tremor (Mouthful). It's the truck I want and, most importantly, it's scheduled to be built 7/19 - the Platinum that I don't like as much is scheduled 8/02 and I'm NOT a patient man.

You can always paint match or blackout your chrome trim. I had everything on my Platinum paint matched by a local shop.
Naw, i don't want the Platinum that bad. I had a bunch of paint-work done on my Ram and know what good paint costs. Not to mention, the plastic mirror caps, grill, window trim, etc... I wouldn't trust the paint to stick. The tailgate badge would be easy but I don't want a giant black tailgate badge anymore than a brushed aluminum. By the time i was done doing body color tailgate badge, all trim in black and my wallet was $5K lighter - I'd still have the wrong headlights to match that would cost me another thousand (or 2) to fix. All this while I pray that the adhesion promoter holds long enough to outlast my ownership on the rig. Sounds like a headache...

I wish I could get Lariat with the Platinum seats, but it's mot possible. I HATE the platinum (and King Ranch/Limited) metal tailgate stripe, and so I am stuck with Lariat. Why in the world is badging of trim line so important to Ford? They prevent me from ordering the top 3 trims.
Not sure if this does anything for you but you can configure the King Ranch with almost zero chrome on the exterior. BTW the fender flares are actually painted the accent color. The web site has this glitch depending on the angle you view the truck.

No a KR fan, or 2-tone for that matter. That said, that's the best looking I've seen.
