Lariat vs. Platinum

Naw, i don't want the Platinum that bad. I had a bunch of paint-work done on my Ram and know what good paint costs. Not to mention, the plastic mirror caps, grill, window trim, etc... I wouldn't trust the paint to stick. The tailgate badge would be easy but I don't want a giant black tailgate badge anymore than a brushed aluminum. By the time i was done doing body color tailgate badge, all trim in black and my wallet was $5K lighter - I'd still have the wrong headlights to match that would cost me another thousand (or 2) to fix. All this while I pray that the adhesion promoter holds long enough to outlast my ownership on the rig. Sounds like a headache...

I was able to get the grille, mirror caps, side badges, door handles, and front/rear aftermarket bumpers paint-matched for less than $2k to White Platinum Tri-Coat here in Houston. But, I know that paint prices can vary greatly in California especially because of the restriction on certain chemicals/paints. I've got some rock chips from driving the truck around, but that's to be expected on the front end. No issue with cracking, chipping, flaking or anything like that.

Hey Guys, I have 2 trucks on order right now:

2022 Lariat F250 4x4 CCSB, Rapid Red/Black Int.
6.7L, Black Appearance, Tremor, Lariat Ult., PWR Running Boards, High Cap Trailer, Upfitters, Roof Clearance Lights, 397 Alt.

2022 Platinum F350 4x4, CCSB, Atlas Blue/Dark Marsala Int.
6.7L, 3.55 Elec Lock, Fx4, Roof Clearance Lights, 397 Alt., Upfitters, Spray in Liner

These two trucks build out to exactly the same price but the F250 Lariat comes down $1,710 thanks to the Tremor discounts with the other packages. Both have build dates in July with AUG ETA to dealership. Dealer doesn't care which I take, other goes on their lot.

I am spending WAY too much time trying to decide between the two and keep reading conflicting information on the differences between the Lariat (fully optioned like mine) vs. the Platinum. Truth be told, only reason i am getting a Tremor in the F250 is because it's required to combine with the Lariat Ult. to get the PWR Running boards. I am going a 5.5" Full-tilt Carli Suspension kit on it and have 38" Toyo MT and 20" American Forces that will replace most of the "Tremor" on the truck. That said, i love the black appearance package.

The Platinum is a non-tremor but would be getting the same suspension treatment listed above. The Platinum comes with the PWR Running boards and, being an f350, doesn't require the high-cap tow.

I like the look of the Lariat Black appearance better; I still really like the Velocity Blue (Atlas blue is close enough that i use these for reference) Platinums I've seen and would be happy with it. I've read there are several differences in the Lariat and platinum levels MORE than just additional standard options.

I know PWR Running boards & Adaptive Cruise are standard which is awesome - I've also heard heated steering wheel (not a big deal, I'm in southern California, lol), Nicer Quality Leather, Real Wood interior pieces, difference windshield with higher quality glass, etc. Any merit to any of these? The big one is the "Nicer" leather vs. just different design with the massagers. People accept it as fact but I've yet to find any documentation it's nicer.

Either way, i would be getting the same truck in different colors, it seems. The Packages on the Lariat vs. the Platinum seem to balance all options. If there's merit to what people are saying on the Platinum, it may be a better value AND better resale.

Definitely Mind-F*cking this as I've never spent this much on anything short of a house so I want to make sure i do it right the first time. Both would be X-Plan.
Different glass? I doubt this. Isn’t it all the “sound screen” glass? Never heard of this.

The Platinum also comes with built in and connected Navigation while the Lariat has only connected navigation.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in the leather on the steering wheel between the plat and the lariat? Or between the lariat ultimate and lariat value for that matter? I drove a lariat value today and the steering wheel didn't feel that great.

There is a difference. I have a Platty. I looked at both. The Platty also has black faux panels with every other trim has the brown fake wood. The top of my interior is black as all other interiors (except for King Ranch which I just not sure) comes lighter
The massage seats are so bad ass you will truly want them. Softer leather on the seats. If only they offered the blacked out package on the Platinum. But I still swear by the Platty.

Thanks for that info. I will try to find a plat to go take a look at. I wouldn't mind trying those butt grabbers before making the final call.

Sweet and the top of the interior is black also. Plus has massage seats. King Ranch is bad ass also. ??????

My honest take; the best package is the lariat, the trim looks a bit better on the Platinum but the seats don't get better than those on the XLT.

Ford's always used crap leather in their seats, never more so than now, but with the advent of cushion air conditioning, suddenly the foam needs to allow airflow; this means the foam is full of holes and will age accordingly. The XLT doesn't have this option, so the foam is solid and should last a while longer. Those of us with the 'premium' seats will find they're ready for replacement in just a few years, maybe less if you're particularly heavy set.
I agree with most of what you've said, except the ventilated seats. I just traded in a 2016 High Country with the heated and ventilated seats. I weigh 370lbs and the drivers seat didn't show any more wear or breakdown than the passenger seat. I hate to assume, but I can't imagine Ford using anything better or worse than Chevy with regards to premium seat cushion material. I just made sure to keep a leather conditioner on the seats to prevent any drying out and cracking.

To be honest, there were 3 reasons I got rid if my 3500HD. 1, being a disabled veteran, it was too hard on me cleaning that much truck. It was a crew cab, 8 foot, dually and took me all day. 2, it was a 2016, the better engines came out in both ford and chevy in 2017 900 and 1000 lbs torque sure beats my paltry 450. 3, and not least by any means is the massage seats. I had a F150 Limited as a rental for a week and fell in love with the massage seats. They felt amazing driving home after spending all day bouncing around in my bass boat. So while some don't care for them, to me, they truly help relax my back. I broke it in Iraq so to me, it was worth making the move. Getting A-plan also played a big part in the decision

Thanks for your brave service. Sorry to hear that you were injured. My lower back gives me a lot of issues and really hurts on long drives. So I agree 1000% on getting massage seats. They are the SHIT.
My wife and I drove 19hrs straight in March from LI NY to Florida. We couldn’t imagine doing that trip with out the massage seats.
I’ll keep you in my prayers Brother Ed.
GOD BLESS ????????????????

Well, both my Lariat and Platinum are built and in transit to the Dealer. They're scheduled to show up 10 days apart (8/18-2/28) and my sales man is going to do everything in his power to allow me to sit them next to each other. If i need to make a choice, it sounds like it's going to be the Platinum. I love the look of the Dark Marsala interior and am REALLY hoping the Atlas Blue looks as good as the Velocity in person.

The Platinum coming standard with the Rain sensing wipers and heated wheel (i know this was an option on the Lariat, but not one i was aware of when i ordered as it wasn't in the configuration utility), Adaptive Cruise Control, Power Steps (without requiring the tremor/Lariat Ult.) and the nicer finishes. Not to mention, i found out the lane keep assist comes with the Red truck i ordered in the heavy tow package and i HATED this buzzing wheel on the truck i test drove with it.

Another interesting fact - I built the two trucks on KBB (did 2020 with 10,000 miles) and my fully optioned Lariat booked at $76,500 and the identical Platinum, $81,000. Seems the platinum holds it's value better as the Lariats are priced by KBB at the minimally equipped price with only some price consideration for all the upgraded features. Not that i plan to sell it quickly but, being as pricy as it is, the option is there should my situation change for any reason.

We'll see what happens when the first truck shows up and it takes an army to keep me back from the dealership for the 10 days until the Plati shows but, as of now, I'm leaning toward the blue platinum and eventually blacking it out or something.

They are, indeed. That's the "dark marsala" interior. I ordered this on my Atlas Blue Truck.

We are a fortunate group when our problems are ones such as these.

I went with the Lariat Ultimate, Black package, pretty much all the boxes were checked. Since I use this as a delivery truck, I wanted to be a little less flashy to the casual observer than the KR or Platinum...while still being nearly as nice.

I will say my tremor is a maxed out Lariat minus power running boards and I wanted it that way. Then my 5’ wife gave me the thumbs down on the no power running boards. Sooo… there there now!
However my dually is a platinum and with 88k on the clock I will now say the massage seats kinda suck. They work fine but after my 200lb self sat on them for 88k there are like sitting on hard uneven lumpiness.
So this inspired me getting a Lariat along with the black appearance.
While it is personal preference I find the Lariat seats marginally more comfortable from the get go, will see hold they hold up.
I’m at 28k on the tremor with some amazingly noisy tires!

Regarding the noisy tires, I've run a few sets of these Duratracs on various rigs. As they wear down some have gotten fairly noisy unless I am very diligent on tire rotation. Even once they are noisy due to my slacking, I can usually get some more quiet miles out of them by rotating. I bring the rears straight forward and then take the fronts to opposite sides in the rear.

I slipped on first rotation and didn't do till 8k and 5k from that point on. Guess I'm not used to these aggressive tires. Wife's raptor with the factory BFGs are starting to moan at 24k!
