@Godzilla/Tremornator travel & antics

here's what the peephole windows look like on the caliper

where you can check the wear groove in the break pad

this pic you can see the outside pad groove. you can see the inside pad but need to rotate the rotor a little to line up the groove.

passenger side still had a pronounced groove in both pads.

guess mud, dirt , grime or something caused to inside pad drivers side to get chewed up??????

anyway, here's what to look for & where to check your break pads.
stock calipers, aftermarket will be something similar.

again, when you're rotating the tires will be the easiest time??? imo!!!

What do you plan on doing with this peephole? 🤪

need to make a correction

stated you need to turn the rotor to see the inside pad. don't know what i was thinking???? the pads & calipers are fixed.

finished the front drivers side today

went way smoother. still a nightmare to get the rotor to break free.

probly just getting old and weak
🤣😂🤣😂🤣

probably won't get to the rear pads till next week.

I can’t believe you’re still running original shocks , with that kind of mileage! Nice job on the “brake down”🤣any issues with bleed ing or air in the line on changeout?

yep

i get a chuckle when guys blout how their shocks are shot.😂🤣😂🤣

95k miles
first brake issue
been to Colorado 3yrs, big bend twice, alaska dalton hwy to deadhorse. trucks been a workhorse.

granted the motor & trans failed, but not the shocks🤣😂🤣😂🤣

changing brake pads
ya just get a c-clamp, use the old pads to compress the caliper pistons. you never open the system to needed being bled.

change the calipers or fluid, then yes you would need to bleed out the air and/or old fluid.

i probably should change the fluid but I'm not going to mess with that until i feel the brakes becoming spongy or response diminishes

there is one concern removing & replacing the calipers. the bolts have blue lock-tight but there is also some kind of corrosion resistant coating on the bolts. makes them very difficult to thread. almost crossthreaded the first one.

on the 2nd one, backed the bolts out to about a half inch to go. got a box end wrench & worked them back & forth for 50 reps each twice. helped the second caliper go really smooth!!!!

taking a trip Wednesday. the front axle seals show to be seeping. I'll do the rear pads after the dealership is done with those repairs.
