finished up the chassis today.
front & back, brakes all on, disk brakes front & rear. front rack (does that count) centered. front end alignment, as best we could eye ball.

next step
cap set in place to figure out engine placement & motor mounts.

Well you definitely put that motor/trans through the ringer. I just wish you'd keep the info on a fresh tranny to yourself. This is a truck forum! 🤪.

What were the specific issues with the motor and Trans?

it won't happen unless you make it happen

my buddy torn his down 30yrs ago, then just had it in his way ever since

get on it, get it done, else it'll never get done!!!!!!!!!
Mine's not actually on hold. I'm currently building a big '56 261 w twin Strombergs, a T5, and 10 bolt posi before tearing it all down. It's drivable w the tired old 216 and a Saginaw 4spd on the original torque tube, but it's not as fun as it used to be.
I've also got a lifted '87 Power Ram and a '74 CB750K in different stages of completion, and a lifted '09 XC70 that I regularly beat on off road. So many projects, so little time.

engine
2 issues
1st
what sounded like lifter clatter at 2000rpm
clatter went away upon trans shifting & rpm dropping to 1500 to 1700 then begins clattering again when the engine reaches 2000rpm.
the clatter also went away above 2000 to 2500 rpm and remained clatter free at higher rpm

2nd
only during hard acceleration above 5000rpm the engine light comes on blinking. after crusing at lower rpms for 3 to 5 miles the engine light goes off & stays off only until rpm's go above 5000.
even moderate acceleration all the way up to the speed limiter as long as it's under 5000 rpm, no engine light. cruise as long as you want on the speed limiter, no engine light.

dealership verified/confirmed all the above. ford agreed to warranty & replace the engine. but, required/requested a documented tear down.

transmission
hard/abrupt engagement from park to drive/manual/reverse.
hard/abrupt engagement on upshifts & downshifts. sometimes it was 4th & 6th. sometimes it was 3rd & 5th. all other gears were smooth. also, when it switched between 4th & 6th or 3rd & 5th, the other shifted smooth again.

dealership said some bushing came loose & there was serious metal in the pan.

repairs are supposedly in process.
they are telling me 2 more weeks but hope they get it finished sooner🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

we'll see, is what it is🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm already confused🤣😂🤣😂

i have another buddy sounds a little like you. more projects than I'd wanna try to keep up with. i think he works on which ever one he finds what he needs cheap. then waits until he runs across the next whatever parts cheap.

good luck with keeping up with & juggling life on yours!!!!

The struggle is real. 😅

tore down my buddies motor today.

been on the engine stand fo 30yrs.
a nasty mess.

cleaning up pretty good though.

still need to steel wool the cylinder walls tomorrow. there are 3 nicks in his crank. we'll need to get it turned, swap for one that's already done🤞or get a new one.

few pics of the teardown & clean-up
