Forum Recommended Maintenance List

I would see the manufacturer's service recommendations as the minimum expectations for how to properly maintain the vehicle. If you're just using it as a daily driver and not using what is considered "extreme or heavy duty" use, then that is likely fine.

Ford’s special-conditions schedule then shortens specific items:

Towing or car-top carrier
Oil every 5,000 mi or 6 months; tire rotation and wheel inspection every 5,000 mi; transfer case fluid and spark plugs every 60,000 mi

Extensive idling or low speed
Oil every 5,000 mi, 6 months, or 200 engine hours; brake inspection every 5,000 mi; spark plugs every 60,000 mi; air and cabin filters as required

Dusty or sandy
Oil every 5,000 mi or 6 months; air and cabin filters as required

Off-roading
Inspect steering linkage, ball joints, and U-joints frequently; oil every 5,000 mi or 6 months; air filter as required

Thanks to you and others….

I addressed how I use it in my OP and indicated that I consider my use and locale qualify as severe. However, I am not just asking for me and my use. I’m happy to crack something open early if enough people think it wise (transfer case for example) and as I stated, didn’t see a consolidated thread for maintenance intervals and recommendations for the 7.3

As others have said, everyone has their own preferences and opinions on what is necessary or appropriate. The only truly definitive approach is to test every fluid and then change based on lab analysis results, but that could be costly and time intensive to do.

@Bignc - since you're looking for a service interval guide, sharing what I'm doing with my truck. Note that I updated my plan recently to account for a super charger, so there's things that are on my list that are likely not relevant to you.

I'd personally follow the schedule for all fluids regardless of whether I had a diesel or gas engine.

Excellent! Thanks!
