Fly Fishing: A gathering place for those who like to stand in a river waving a stick around.

Weather here has finally shifted towards fall! Went to these lakes back in late May and they were still frozen so was ready for round two. I am also currently camper-less, so wanted to get the dog out for a tent trip to prepare for some backpacking plans.

The hike up reminded me that I haven’t been getting out much this summer, but the payoff was excellent! Had the whole lake to ourselves and managed several Yellowstone cutthroat and grayling. Both species are stocked here, but Yellowstone’s are native to the area and can be found in the lower creeks.

Absolutely crushed some coastal cuttys today. Lost count maybe 25-30. Obviously mostly small, lots of them in the 3-4” range. But a few of them in the 6-7” range. Scenery couldn’t have been better.

Coastal cutties are such an amazing fish! Love how stream residents carry the purple and heavy spots.

Yeah. And these are VERY coastal. I was less than a mile from the ocean for all of them.
