Well I have a Government 1911 that I as shoot in matches that I carry the most, switch to either a officer, commander or Sig 365 depending on the circumstances. In the winter (it's dark up here in the NW) I either carry a railed 1911 or a P320 with a surefire.
The gun is tool and depending of what I am doing I will switch things out. When I am fencing I will carry a G23 since I don't carry if I beat that up
What ever you decide to carry be familiar with the function and control of your weapon. I always shoot any gun I carry at 5-10 yards increments out to 35 yards. I train quite a few people that carry but have no idea of what their gun prints at distance.
I always ask "What the best gun to carry" at every class I teach. Get all kinds of answers. The answer I think is correct is "what ever gun you are most comfortable with and can handle the best".
Do your due diligence and be safe!
