Building new home.....garage door size

But are they making homes with 8ft doors? All seem like 7ft.

I would think most newer homes come with 8ft doors. Mine did and clears just fine.

Edit: Maybe it depends on the city and builder?

I have been looking around the area in case. Bentonville Ark. They of course don’t depict the garage door height. Hopeful I will find something. My current home built in 93 does not have an 8ft door

Don't trust the looks of the door. Make sure the interior rails/mounting keep the lift motor disconnect high off your truck roof. Honestly I'd not expect any new home to have bigger than 8'. I would want a 9'-10' door just to have a bit of extra.

My stock Tremor fits in my 7' shop door. Parking garages, too. Anything less is a no-go.

8ft’r for sure. Love being able to keep my ride in the garage. Length is the main thing though. Our trucks are long!
I was in bentonville the other day. I’m near Tahlequah. Let me know if I can help.

I’d say 8’ at minimum.. One of the reasons we bought our current house was the garages.. I had a 2021 Tremor at the time and the center garage is 10’x12’ with a depth of 30’.. The 2 doors on the side are standard 8’x7’.. I tried to put my stock 24 Tremor in the standard door for s&g’s and it was a definite no go..

My truck barely fits in my garage with a 7ft door. My 16 ram 3500 on a carli backcountry with 37’s fit in my garage, but if I were to lift or level this super duty it would not fit. My truck runs the door seal each time I pull in. You need a 8 ft door ideally.

I went ahead and merged together a few different threads related to garage door heights. Thanks @BroncOh.

"I won't ever drive anything bigger..." Said every person back in the 50's, 60's, 70's when they were pumping out tiny garages with even tinier garage doors. Bigger is always* better!

*There are a few clear exceptions here, like women.
Yup. There’s zero chance the truck is fitting my 1978 built garage. I was able to get a Tahoe in here for a few years, but the Tremor is much longer. I have an RV pad on the side, behind a gate. I park the Tremor out there under a canopy.

I will probably catch heat on this topic...how much room does everyone have around their truck when you put it in your garage? I know garage size varies but curious to see how everyone is doing it. I have always kept my F150 in the garage and thinking of pulling the trigger on the F250 and hoping it will fit. My depth on the garage is about 253" and the truck is about 250" from the spec sheet...going to be tight!
Make it bigger in every dimension. Garage space is the cheapest square-footage in the house — and nobody ever said “I wish my garage was a little smaller”.

And epoxy-coat the garage floor before moving in! Much easier to do when it’s new and empty!

A larger garage is also a real value-adder for the guy who looks at your house when you’re ready to sell. If it’s a small lot, 30’ feet deep is a nice number. That will allow room for storage racks, a small boat, etc. Taller is better too, so you or the next guy can store kayaks, a jeep top-hoist, or whatever.

The house I bought had two bays that are 28’ deep with 7’ doors and extra room on the side that’s big enough for a couple motorcycles, an elk freezer and a commercial ice-maker. It seemed big enough in the beginning, but it seems small now.

I built a 16’ x 32’ shop that shares a wall with the garage. That door is 10’ tall. It’s too small. I would have gone bigger in both directions, but I was constrained by an existing 7’ retaining wall holding back a steep hillside, so it would have been stupid-expensive to engineer a bigger space.

My wife says most folks want a house with attached garage, but we need a “garage with attached house”.

Bare minimum! :ROFLMAO:

I see there’s a bar… if there’s a fireplace out there I’d never leave the garage.

Although, if you spend that kind if money on a garage, why have 7’ doors? Maybe the guy who built it was a sports-car guy?

Yea, just posting something that was pretty well done. I'd have 10' high/wide doors myself. If 12'H were a better cost/fit maybe run those. After that I'd need an RV/boat to justify a 14'H door.

I would like 12ft doors and 15ft ceilings at least. I had the epoxy floor in my ATL home. It was great.

I was thinking either epoxy or stained/polished concrete floors. 🤔 I wasn't sure about the traction aspect of polished as I think of it like ice. Hit that one spot and it's fun time. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Spouse has NO problems picking out rugs so that's not a problem. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Best garage I ever built was on a lot sloping gently down to the left. Put garage roof line even from curb with house on the left side. It was 43 wide and 33 deep with 10 foot high and 11 foot wide with 3 doors. Ceiling height was 12 foot. Huge storage upstairs. Covered walkway to house. Garage front was even with back of house.
