7.3L spark plug/coil wire failure

MB for mine.

Mine are as follows:
The packaging has the Ford part # of LC3Z-12286-C
The wire has the engineering # of LC3E-12286-JB
Your engineering number on your wire ending in MB indicates it's the "C" version as I understand it.

I see what you’re saying. Sorry, was confused.

If mine are the c wires, they definitely look different than the ones you just received. The metal sleeve that goes over the plug looks completely different. Is it possible that the WR-6167 is specific to the 7.3 chassis units that are used for motor homes? Obviously they will still work fine in our trucks. Here is a picture of mine to compare to your new ones.

Yes most likely that's the case with my wires. I specifically bought the ones with the chassis designation, and as you said I don't think it'll make any difference as far as fit and function. I'm going to try changing some of them out tomorrow to confirm everything goes well. I'm quite positive you have the "C" version designated for the pickups.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here… just found these pictures for reference.

Mine are the WR-6164 which supposedly replaced the WR-6163. I believe the 63’s were the problem ones. Here is an internal closeup of both yours (the 67’s) and mine.

Edit: 6163’s were the replacements to the bad plug part number. Just watched the TFL video when he had the plug wire failure and his replacement for the faulty plug was the 6163.

My truck was built 3/22/22 and picked up on 4/12. I’ll check and see what mine are tomorrow and report back, curious myself.

Glad you showed these pictures as I was curious about the spring in front of the boot. I may have to go out tonight and give it a try on one. 😆

so you are saying if you flip the above wire over it will show " C11HK" like the photo below. Just double checking.

Yes, I believe all versions say that. Along with the fomoco emblem. The LC3Z……. Tells the real part #

Looks like the chassis/motorhome wire metal sleeves that @RedZilla has are made from 2 pieces, whereas pickup trucks are a single piece. Might be on to something.
An attempt at some kind of thermal break?
OK guys, I just pulled the front left wire and sure enough my 2021 has LC3E-12286-MB printed on the wire. It looks like I have the "C" version for trucks already! 😆 I installed one of the new wires and the truck ran just fine. Just has a larger dia. heat shield.

Anyway, I have a theory on the motorhome chassis version. I think with a little research we will find that although the engines are identical, the motorhome chassis may spec out a different spark plug, thus requiring a larger diameter heat shield on the front end of the plug connection. I don't know why they would do that but that's my theory for now.

I guess I'll just keep my originals on the engine until I get a code or whatever, and just keep this set as backups down the road.

The motorhome version has a spring too, right? Or does the pickup version have it too?

I believe the C11HK is just the 7mm wire that is used in this part. It’s the end at the spark plug that has had a few revisions.

So does that spring just help center the heat shielding over the plug since the outside metal housing is larger?
