Tremor Group - See Post #79 for the Attendee List and FInal Details

The world’s largest overland expo is happening in Flagstaff, AZ, from May 15–17, and I wanted to see who might be interested in attending as a group.

If you haven’t been to this event before, I highly recommend it. Most of the vendors we regularly purchase from will be there, along with many new brands and products hitting the market. This year’s expo will feature over 400 vendors and more than 175 classes, covering topics ranging from vehicle recovery and packing strategies to general overland skills and trip planning. It’s also a great chance to see some incredibly well-built rigs in person.

Beyond the expo itself, this would be a great opportunity to organize a Tremor meet-up and possibly a few group activities. If there’s enough interest, we could plan a trail run on Friday, May 15. Likely routes would be in the Sedona area—Schnebly Hill Road, Power Line, and possibly Outlaw. We ran these trails in September, and they offered a solid mix of scenery, length, and difficulty. A stock Tremor can run all of them without issue.

Saturday and Sunday would be dedicated to the expo, with the option to meet up for group dinners in the evenings.

One potential challenge will be camping. Campgrounds within 20 miles of Flagstaff may fill up quickly, as many attendees will be looking for reservable sites. That said, Flagstaff is surrounded by National Forest land, so dispersed camping should still be a viable option for those comfortable with it.

If you’re interested in attending, please let me know. Once I have a sense of the group size, I’ll start working on the details. This is a great opportunity—both for the experience and for discovering a few things you didn’t know you needed!

This sounds like an awesome meet. Thanks for putting this together. Hopefully I can make it work, but won't know for a few weeks. Please put me on the tentative list.

I’m headed to AK the following week or I’d try to make this one.

count me as tentative. This sounds like fun, Bo!

Anyone know how much exploring can be done in the San Juans this time of year? Might take a whole week and explore a few days up there on my way out.

Not much at all usually. I’ve been going up there every summer for close to two decades, and we’ve always been limited in where we could go even in June. Even in a limited snow year like this year I think you’d be lucky if much is open in May. However if it’s along the way no reason not to try anyways. I just wouldn’t plan it as THE destination for that early.

Its only money. You can make more.
Literally say that all the time. To the point that now my kids use it against me all the time!

The Alpine Loop in the San Juan Mountains (Engineer Pass + Cinnamon Pass between Ouray, Silverton, and Lake City) opens once snow clears, and the timing varies each year depending on winter snowpack.
Typical opening window
  • Cinnamon Pass: usually late May to early June
  • Engineer Pass: usually early to mid-June (often a little later than Cinnamon)
  • Full Alpine Loop access: usually mid-June to early July in an average year

Went to the Overland Expo West back in 2021. Sept. 24th and 25th.

Once is enough. 😝

Beyond that, I'm always willing to meet up w/ other like-minded fellers and their Super Duty Tremors and any reasonable facsimile.

🏁

I'm in! Always a great time with my AZ brothers.

I'm in where would be staying Flagstaff?
This is one of the details that needs to be worked out. There isn't a single area that has accommodations for everyone (hotel, camping, RV, etc). There are plenty of hotels, and if enough people show interest I will start contacting them to see about securing a block of rooms at a discounted rate. If you want a campsite that is reservable, I am not sure there is anything in close proximity (30 miles) of the event. I did a search, and nothing with availability is coming up. However, if you want to disperse camp, there is almost unlimited National Forest area around Flagstaff (within 15 miles) available. This is just open forest with very accessible forest roads. No reservations, just first come.
