Thanks for the safe info. I'm gunna (bad pun intended) stay low tech. I've timed myself - 10 seconds from bed to the key above the window, unlock the safe, and rack a round.

Curious, how do you time yourself from a hard sleep?

I would totally imagine laying in bed playing you are asleep and actually being asleep & waking up groggy would result in completely different times

Waking suddenly at 0300 with a door getting kicked in or a broken window, having to shake off the deep REM sleep that makes you groggy and then dealing with the adrenaline dump that has you fumbling and your fine motor skills shot to hell & then not having a round in he chamber all conspire against you & put you way behind the curve

Are you still going? The only thing less practical than a 1911 is a 2011. I'm not saying I don't like a good 1911, but it's not a practical (or even a good) concealed weapon.
