Cabela's
was a fantastic company. The people who made Cabela's what it was were all fired... by the Bass Pro CEO.
Tucker did a little thing on it, which was more about the investor who was responsible for it (Cabela's part starts at 5:20):
I don't hate Bass Pro or blame their CEO, but he's not some super awesome person that gives a flip about the little guy type of person. I'm not saying he's evil or bad, either. Just a business person. Doing business stuff. Optics on giving up his salary were wonderful, I'm sure, I don't know anything about it. But, if he's like the CEO at every other mega corporation in the US his salary pales to his bonuses. I know my CEO has a small 7 figure salary. He also got a very healthy 8 figure bonus.
I still shop at Bass Pro, like I said I don't hate the company or anything. But, Cabela's was a much nicer store. I enjoyed shopping there. A lot, we went there all the time. It's still the same physical location but the store is just different. The sales are different. They'd rather put product in a dumpster than put it on sale. Cabela's had a large sale area and over time the prices would keep going down. It was just a fun place to shop. I would go in there and come out with things I didn't need and didn't go in looking for.
With Bass Pro -- I go in for something specific -- get it and leave. There's no point in browsing around because it's always the same products at the same prices. *shrugs*
Anyway, apologies for the rant. Do miss Cabela's.
