It's only a couple years older than me. I just got it recently for a good deal because......
A lot of peple didn't like this particular model in the old days because it's a clean machine.
Everybody wants that 60s style earl breakup with no pedals... which makes the late 70s stuff dirt cheap in comparison to the 60s stuff. It'll get you there in is own, but your ears will be bleeding by the time it does.
At the time, Fender (CBS.) saw the advent of overdrive/distortion pedals coming in, and started building amps with a lot more clean headroom to suit the "newer" arena rock music. which makes it the PERFECT pedal platform IMO.
My early 80s tube screamer makes this thing sound like a chorus of angels, abs it's the only amp I've ever heard that makes the boss ds1 sound good.
Also have an Orange dual terror that makes exactly ZERO clean sounds. It is pretty much the exact opposite of the Fender sound, so i have most tones covered between the 2.
I run that one through 2 early 90s closed back 2x12 cabinets with eminence blue labels. Found them at goodwill. $90 for the pair! That's less than the cost of 1 of the 4 speakers.
I've been playing my whole life, but never got into gear until the last couple years.
I've always said I'd rather hear a good musician play a $100 pos, than hear a shit musician hack away with thousands of dollars worth of equipment he doesn't deserve.
So, Now that I've "earned" my right to good tone after almost 40 years of playing, I've been buying up used gear like crazy while it's a buyers market.
Haven't had a lot of time to mess with it, but i did plug it into those cabinets and play for a couple hours through them, but i think I'm going to do that any more without ear protection. the 2x12s it has already are more than enough, and my ears were ringing (more than normal) for 3 days.
Holy Moly... you could not even hear the drums over it pushing the half stack .
Any other musicians here? Maybe i should start a new thread..
