When the jack is in the stowed position in the back of the cab (crew cab), is the operating knob (where the crank handle goes into the jack) supposed to face up or down? The little drawing in the manual indicates that the knob is supposed to face down, but the metal forming on the base of the jack (the side opposite of the side with the operating knob has a lip on it) suggests that it should be pointing up.

I had to change a tire yesterday and this whole jack thing is bugging me.

I consider myself very fortunate that I don't have any larger problems.

Can someone please check their truck and let me know?

Thanks...sorry for being so OCD...

Can't help with that since I've removed my jack before, so don't know if I put it back the same way it came from the factory.

I want the story behind why you needed to change a tire, though! Get a flat?

Just laughing at myself for thinking the same thing. One of the first things I did with my Tremor was to visit a buddy's house and look at how the tiny jack was supposed to lift my truck. (looking at the jack points and comparing to his Chevy). Anyways, when it was all done I had the same moment of concern - where/how does this thing fit back in? I even consulted the manual as well!

Hope you only get flat tires in cell reception lol.
This is why I always carry a permanent tire plug kit and pump/compressor. I have had numerous times where I didn’t even remove the wheel and just plugged it and filled it. I have done this probably close to a hundred times for other people when I worked at a parking garage.

That’s awesome! I’m also carrying a plug kit and compressor (well, will be again once I get my toolbox and Diamondback installed so I have space for it).

Thanks for the info and the pictures.

What happened: when I drove to work one of my tires was showing slightly low pressure. I think around 55 psi.

When I went to lunch it was showing about 38 psi. I looked at the tire and it looked ok so I figured I might have a bad sensor.

When I got back from lunch I heard some hissing and saw a screw in the tire. I thought about driving home to the local tire store but saw a super duty at the body shop earlier this year with the side of the bed torn off from a tire failure so did not want to to that.

I work for a large (and awesome) utility contractor and one of the guys cleared out a spot in the warehouse so I could change the tire without being exposed to snow and slush.

I had to cancel a meeting with one of my peers and when he heard what happened he ran down and basically did all the heavy lifting. Then our COO stopped by to chew that fat and said I should have let him know because Les Schwab was in the nearby yard doing some work on some of our fleet vehicles and he would have called them over. Oh well, maybe next time. When we were done he shooed us away and said to have a happy new year.

It’s hopefully obvious that I really like the people I work with…

Anyway, when I saw the jack, I thought that ford had put the wrong one in the vehicle. That thing is puny! But it did the job.

Anyway, that’s my story.

If I ran the world, there’d be markings on everything explaining how to place it. Oh yeah, and Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren would be sent to outer space.

Imma store mine knob up when my truck comes in.

Then we will have a poll.

Then we will draw our battle lines.
