Coming up on the first change. I've always preferred Mobile, but I'm at a crossroads and could use some advice. Here's what I am weighing.

Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40
Easy to find but not Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 approved.

Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W-40
Hard to find but is Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 approved.

Amsoil: Signature Series Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil
Claims Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 in their literature, but Ford does not seem to recognize their claim. My father-in-law sells it and swears by it.

Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic Diesel Motor Oil SAE 15W-40
Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 approved, easy to find, cheap, but I have no long-term experience with Shell lubricants.

Just to touch on what you said about not having any experience with the Shell lubricants. Rotella, was one of the 2 original and only motor oils that were developed specifically for Diesel engines over 20+ years ago. It has been a “Go-to” for my previous diesel motor and is our primary choice at my job where we manage over 150 stationary Diesel generators. Rotella was also one of the first to develop a Synthetic Diesel specific motor oil with their T6 formulation. In my personal truck I would either use Rotella or Amsoil full synthetic and had almost 400k miles on my original engine with no mechanical issues. I also use Rotella in my lawn equipment, and I use their Gasoline motor oil in my family members other cars since I do the oil changes in them.
I’ve seen some independent testing of Rotella motor oils and it is a great overall oil with the additive package that they use for friction reduction and contaminate dispersion.

If any of you Diesel guys are in Tampa, I have a several Gallons of Valvoline Blue, 2-3 Motorcraft Oil filters, an Air Filter and a H&S upper Fuel Filter I never got around to installing. I can meet ya somewhere near Brandon. Oh, and a Fumoto Valve.

Bringing this back to the top! Ford cancelled my order for Motorcraft oil as it's "on national back-order"... Tried my ol' tried and true Rotella T6 but Walmart is max 3 gallons and this truck is 13 quarts.

Thanks to the oil shortage - I ended up buying 10 gallons of "Mobil Delvac Extreme Heavy Duty Full Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil 15W-40" thanks to the link posted with the Ford approved oils. Should work great in my Cummins and Powerstroke. Thanks for this thread!

I'm sure I'm igniting the Ford vs Chevy, 9mm vs 45ACP, Coke vs Pepsi debate but I'm going to do it anyway. From what I've read, the major oil brands, when changed at appropriate intervals, are all about the same. For the sake of this thread and poll, I'm going to stick to full synthetics for an apples to apples comparison. If it's true that they are all the same or similar, my decision may just come down to price, personal preference, or even supporting the best American company. If any of these companies are into the flavor of the month SJW campaign or supporting the current anti American fads then they are out for me. I haven't researched any of them from this standpoint so I come without any preconceived positions. Might be silly to bring these topics into an oil thread but if the oils are all so similar in quality, might as well support a company that supports the America I believe in.

I also looked up cost per gallon on Amazon and am including that as a factor for consideration.

Schaeffer's 5w40 is pricey but usually available. Probably because it's pricey.

I guess what you're supposed to do with Schaeffer's and send in for oil analysis and push out your service intervals.

This is what the dealer gave me when I used my Fordpass points to get oil and filters - I asked a few times if it was OK and they said this is what they are using in the shop for all work.

I’ve had a preferred customer account for years but was hesitant about using it in the new powerstrokes because it’s not on the list and ford is famous for denying warranty work faulting the customer, hell they’re stilling pulling that shit with the cp4 bs

Only thing that matters is that it's on that list while my warranty is valid. Keeping my receipts. I want them to have no reason to deny a $20K claim should something go amiss. I ran AMSOIL in my Ram for many years with extended oil changes and a bypass filter. I've done the same with Rotella and Valvoline synthetics as well. Blackstone oil analysis had been great on all. I've never tried the Mobile Delvac so this will be a first. If it's on that list, it's obviously sufficient.

After years overpaying for AMSOIL, I'm back to the big name brands. Not that they're superior but i certainly didn't see any benefit for the additional $$.

I’ve been running amsoil since 06 just don’t wanna give them any excuse to bone me should something catastrophic happen engine wise so I’ll be running rotella T6 in this one
