Power stop brakes - which one

Have used PS Z36 on previous truck. Looking for 22 F350. Do you find they have to heat up a bit since they are ceramic? Had some on my 2000 Jeep and took a bit of braking to get them where they were good. Not bedding in but during normal driving. I think the weight of th F350 would help with this.

Nobody's had noise issues with them or braking ra ra ra ra ra ra ? I put them on two other vehicles, and while yes they worked, they were the noisiest SOB's you'd ever want to hear or feel.

I followed the break in directions exactly and I have had zero issues.

Absolutely no noise, vibration, etc.

Huh... that's interesting. I run EBC brakes and slotted rotors on my Jag, and never had an issue until I tried the power stop, and went back to EBC... Can't imagine what the heck I did wrong based off of MANY sets of brakes on the Jag, LS, and E63.

I can only speak to these brakes on the Super Duty, they do not make any noises that I can hear.

Now, I do not know what your definition of noise is, but you can probably hear the factory brakes a lot better on a Jag vs a Super Duty. So maybe they are noisier, but I can't hear them over the normal sounds of the truck. There definitely isn't any unusual noise.

Again interesting... I can feel it through the pedal, the steering wheel, and hear it. The nearest equivalent noise I could explain is the sound that overheated brakes make, 'rah rah rah rah rah... ' but there is plenty of stopping power, just that the sound is linearly proportional to the pedal pressure. Like, if you have to jam the brakes for a yellow or some doofus that pulls out and then crawls in front of you, You kinda get that half second pucker factor from the sound even though you missed by a mile of even coming close to being in danger. And yes, you can hear it over 'normal' radio volume levels.

Has anyone turned these Powerstop rotors yet? Just wondering if the procedure is any different than factory solid rotors.

Just the right topic for me :) Since my rig is at 12K+ lbs permanently, I would feel more confident with something better. I have never installed brakes before. YouTube university to the rescue, but is it really that simple (assuming I have all the tools)? I've done some mechanical stuff before, but as mentioned never done brakes and don't know anyone here locally that could look over my shoulder. It's less about saving money, but being self-reliant . Feel free to talk me out of it, please.

Changing brakes and rotors is extremely easy and definitely something you can do yourself with basic tools. There are plenty of videos on it. The only part that requires a little finesse if you don’t have a tool for it, is spreading the caliper apart so the new brake shoes fit over the rotor. If you have a large c clamp, that works well, or even a large pry bar. Again, watch some DIY hacks on this part and I’m sure you’ll be just fine.

Thanks for the encouragement. I saw this video last night, and the gentleman used the C-clamp as well. I think I found my next project lol

I'm getting ready to do PS brakes, so is there value is upgrading to SS brake lines as well? I hear noticeably better feel and firmness.

I'm doing the same brake upgrades. I planned on stainless lines as a part of that. I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone that's added that particular upgrade.

Damn, they have a kit with Red calipers, too.

I haven't turned a rotor in over 10 years. The cost to replace OE rotors is not that high and taking any material off a rotor makes it more likely to warp. Given the time it takes to change out rotors, it's just not worth it to mess with turning old rotors. It's also exceedingly hard to find places willing to turn rotors anymore.

Cross-drilled and slotted rotors can't be turned, and even if they could the warping risk would be even higher. There's a reason you only see cross-drilled and slotted rotors (and red calipers!) on sports cars. Save your money and stick with OEM but upgrade the pads.

I think that's a matter of personal preference. SS lines will stiffen the pedal but will reduce your ability to modulate pressure. I wouldn't do it unless you need longer lines anyway because you lifted the truck. Definitely make sure you bleed the lines at regular intervals since that is the biggest culprit of mushy pedal.

I'll be the blacksheep, i've ran powerstop stuff in the past and they do mostly ok. I have found better performance from FrozenRotors slotted rotors and Hawk LTS pads. I also really like Carbotech & G-Loc pads in the past.

Thanks @MrFancypants - then rotors/pads and a brake bleed for me. Is it worth getting new OEM lines up front since I have 175k on the truck?

IMHO, do all the rubber lines if you are going to open up the system. It isn’t really that much more. KLM is very reasonably priced.

I've used clamps all my life but I just got a "special" tool the other day at oreillys. Haven't used it yet but it was only like $15 so I figured I'd try it out 🤷

Me too. This one I borrowed from AutoZone is awesome. They also ended up screwing up the return and letting me keep the tool for free somehow.
