Oil for new 6.7 High Output

I kinda want to break the Triax cycle and just run an amsoil or something for the next round just to see.

I am overdue on a few of these at coming up on 5 years/65k (Jan 2021 truck). I have done the trans at 30k, time to do it again, def need to flush the brake fluid (original), do the diffs and trans case. I'll probably do the transcase and trans when I go in for warranty on my hvac blend door (no recirculation)
Amsoil has been my go- to since racing under their banner. It's a good oil for sure. Since I do not go for extended OCIs, it's the standard duty diesel oil for me. The price is on par with most others.
Side bar on the other fliuds- did you inow R&P manufacturers recommend changing the differential oil after a 500 mile break in?

Oh no you sold me on triax now ya gotta stick to it lol

Ironically, only recently bc I have a friend rebuilding a G-Body and he just swapped out rearends lol 500 mi and a requirement not to beat on it.

I'll come back, I just don't have any data on Amsoil. I have a lot of data from Rotella T6, Mobil, Valvoline and obviously Triax from years of 6.0L.

I am putting Triax in my son's gokart this weekend once we cross over on the hourly breakin requirement. I run it in my lawnmower and pressure washer too for the last several years, just a standard 5w30 lol I dont think it will ever time out in the lawn mower and pressure washer, been in there 2+ years and still looks like honey.

You can be Chicken Little, or just drive the truck doing your regular maintenance. I can't say I have any level of confidence in oil reports from any company. Sure they give you tons of info, but you have to have a history of oil reports to gain any significant data for your motor. I ran myself ragged trying to make heads/tails of oil reports, oil quality, filters, by-pass systems, etc etc etc. You know where I ended up??? Regular maintenance intervals WITH NO REGARD to driving conditions. Meaning it didn't matter how hard the truck was used, or how gentle.

With that the current OE oil change interval is what 10,000 miles?? Stick with 5,000 miles or 7,500 miles for your oil change intervals. There's NO REASON to test the oil, you are changing it too often to make any difference reading some paper report (spending money there as well) which will tell you what?? Drive longer on the oil?? OH....So now you are at 5,000 mile intervals with paper telling you to go longer.....well Ford did tell you 10,000 miles right??

These motors have not had a significant history of internals "just failing". If ANYTHING we can say the OWNERS are failing doing just the basics of maintenance. Make of this post what you will.....down the road you are going to end up just changing your oil/oil filters at a regular interval while enjoying the truck every time you drive it.

K.I.S.S. (not in a romantic way either).... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

🤣🤣🤣Thanks. It’s hard not to be paranoid (aka “Chicken Little”) with these trucks being such a huge investment these days, but what you said makes a lot of sense.

Lake the oil geek did a bunch of tests with amsoil among others don’t get me wrong it’s a good oil but it’s not perfect as some would try and argue, it was beet out in certain categories by others I used to run amsoil in everything years ago I had a preferred customer account and paid dealer price on it but then they screwed with that program and massively jumped their prices after that I was out. I hear good things about high performance lubricants

I like Amsoil, but I'm not a diehard fanboy. I like to find a good product and get in a routine. So, I will blame this forum as I had never heard about Amsoil until being on here. Since it was the first "premium" oil I heard about, and they had many other fluids and products I was interested in, I decided to do the membership and go with their stuff. I'm sure there could be a better oil out there (whether cheaper and equal quality or better quality and equal/more in price), but Amsoil is a very good oil and I'll just stick to my routines. As many have said on hear, just use a quality oil you like, and maintain the truck. The reason I ran oil reports was to make sure I could go fro 5k OIC to 10k OIC without noticeable changes in reports, thereby decreasing my oil change costs in half. I won't want to push any farther than that, as I know oil changes are very healthy for these beasts, and I want zero issues with this truck. So far so good. I don't run reports anymore, since I know how my bypass system has been performing, and there's no reason for it to change. I'm using the same filters and setup, same oil, and driving the same way. I'm in the groove now. If I change anything in this process, my OCD will require me to then go back and validate everything in the new process - not interested.

Everyone should take note of this and have @Vecman in your mind tonight. Have the courage to stand up and fight as he is an example for all of us follow.

Not only has he OVERCOME an issue with OCD....HE wants NO MORE of it.    🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Just saw the ford tech swirl the new oil filter o ring in the drain pan… I hope there weren’t any shavings considering this is my first oil change

Like a margarita glass in salt?

Interesting.
Truth be told, I would think any particulate big enough to matter would mean the engine isn't long for the world anyway. I always use fresh oil or a smear of grease, but I don't think used oil will hurt.

I just don’t dip my filter in the pan, I use my booger finger and smear some around the seal

You may end up with oil drips running down the side the margarita way.

The 6.0L oil pump was known to beat oil down to 30 weight. Not surprising to see the 6.7L doing it as well.

Just got my report back from Blackstone. Interesting comment in that they’re saying the viscosity of the Triax 5W40 is testing low and more as a 5W30. I’ve asked them if it’s something I should be contacting Triax re:

Thoughts?

Interesting for sure. I’ll have to look up an old 5w40 sample from my old truck.

Well shit I have a few gallons of that sitting in the garage now I’ll be paranoid thanks a lot lol

I wouldn't stress, I got like 6 samples and they've mentioned the viscosity does sheer down as part of this engine but they consider it harmless.

@gmbpilot757 as you can see even the FoMoCo oil sheers.

Here you go, needed to get to my computer:
