Oil drain valve

Punching a hole won't help much; it will drain some of what's in the filter, but when you unscrew it, a whole bunch more will come out still from the engine side (tried this on mine). Next time I'll be catching the filter with a 1 gallon milk jug I cut the top off of. I agree the Stahlbus is the way to go for the drain valve.

What size hole and how deep are you going? I use a nail right in the middle of the bottom and get over a quart out of the filter.

I have used Fumoto for may years but I wish they could develop something with a little higher flow rate. If only Ford would upsize the oil plug size.

I always run mine down the road and back just to warm everything up and never had it take more than a few minutes to drain I leave the valve open while I’m workin on swapping the filter by the time I have that swapped out I close the valve and fill it
Same. I’ve got a 5 gallon bucket I kick under the truck and flip the valve open when I get home. Go inside and do a few things and come out 10 min later and swap the filter and fill the oil back up. Takes me less than 10 min after I come back outside.

I have the added bonus of the Talon Garage skid plate, so still trying to figure out how to get the filter off of the 7.3 without making a mess. Tried using a gallon freezer bag around the filter, but there is probably a better solution. It looks like they revised the skid plate now with a access panel for the filter. I have early version with no such help. The Fumoto drains straight down, so that works.

My truck has to be the easiest vehicle I've had, when it comes to changing the oil. Everything is out in the open and a 5 gallon bucket fits under it, with room to spare.

I do go for a short drive beforehand and try to position my truck so the front-end is tilted up-ward (my driveway is on a hill) to aid with draining. I can usually get an extra quart out by doing this.

Yep. Takes 30 seconds of effort to kick the bucket underneath it, and flip the valve open. Then I go eat lunch or do something menial for 10-15 minutes while it drains. I can’t think of anything easier. The filter is easy to get to, and takes very little effort as well.

I have put a Fumoto on every vehicle I own, the Tremor is no exception. I like that it takes its time draining, that allows me the time to go over the underside of each vehicle or address other things while draining without spilling a single drop of oil.

Fumoto'd:
21 F-350 Tremor
21 Crosstrek
10 STi
73 Pontiac Grand Am

I went back to oem one. Realized there’s nothing wrong with it and after half a dozen oil changes I mastered the zero mess technique. I have no use for the Stahlbus anymore.

Is that a black cover on your oil filter to catch spilled oil or is that an aftermarket oil filter that’s black in colour?

I just don’t like the white filter sticking out like a sore thumb with everything else black underneath so i wrap it in black wire loom tape, which also helps to prevent scratching the metal when i use that tool to tighten it.

Btw, doc’s makes a black filter, i’ll likely switch to it next time.

Filter change…..I use a plastic bag once I loosen the filter and unscrew it. I can catch 99% of the oil with the plastic bag and oil filter. Just make sure the bag doesn’t have any holes

I’m actually working on a filter funnel that will allow oil to flow around the filter and down to a hose fitting on the bottom. I’ll post up the file in the 3D printing thread once it’s done and I’ve had a chance to test it. I’ll be doing another oil change in a month or so. I’d also be willing to provide them for cost+shipping to forum members.

I've been using Fumotos for eight years on my 8-quart-sump Coyote-engine'd F150. I attach a clear vinyl hose to the valve's nipple with the other end of the hose into a 12-gallon plastic oil drain jug. Easy as you please. I literally do not spill a drop. The 5.0 Coyote's oil filter, on the other hand...

Just put a Fumoto on my Super Duty Godzilla. I have yet to actually use it, since my truck's second oil change is next up. I have a clear vinyl hose for it, and I have a new 12-gallon oil change jug.

What's even nicer is the Godzilla's oil filter orientation. It's vertical, like NORMAL. I'll use a gallon ZipLok around it, or I'll cut a gallon plastic jug like seen here in this thread. Either way, there'll be no bucket to accidentally drop it into. I will be using my old oil drain pan just to keep the concrete pristine. Hah. We'll see, won't we.

:ROFLMAO: 🛻 🏁

Came across this but they don’t have anything in stock I did send an email asking if they will

The problem with puncturing the filter is that it only drains the filter. Not the other quart that sits on top of the silicone anti drain back valve on top of the oil filter. There is another quart there.

Can 100% confirm this lol. That ADBV def holds back some oil lol. I do puncture it and let it drain, then spin it off over my 4gallon bucket in case it cannon balls (I do try the gallon ziplock form filter) then I do the main oil
