I'm new. At 62, I reckon I'm older than most members here. My last truck was a 2012 F250 6.2L. Took delivery of my Tremor last Friday, which is a 7.3L, Stone Gray with Baja interior. Basically a bare-bones Lariat with upfitter switches, bed step, and fifth-wheel prep. I love the color. I have some questions I'd like some help with. The 3-inch receiver was unexpected, and I'd like to know if others here were provided a reducer on delivery. If not, any recommendations on a specific reducer? Also, I need to get a new fifth-wheel hitch to fit the truck prep. I'll be pulling a 35-foot Rockwood Ultra Lite. Any recommendations on a specific hitch? I know Ford offers two types--one rated for about 17k pounds, and another for about 27k pounds. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome fellow Arkansan. Congrats and Enjoy!

Howdy howdy!

And you got a 3" receiver on the 7.3L? I thought that only came on the 6.7 PSD with the high cap tow package... interesting!

Howdy! Unfortunately, I cannot assist with the questions/recommendations above.

Welcome to the forum @Ouachita Rascal and congrats on the new Tremor! I'm going to move your post to the towing section and hopefully someone with more experience will be able to answer your question.

Yours should have a 2.5 inch receiver. The diesels get a 3 inch.

Welcome

I have the 3" on my 6.7 they gave me a reducer but only goes down to 2 1/2" so I bit the bullet and got a nice aluminum 3" adjustable one.

as for the 5th wheel. I have the factory option for the set up like you do. I tow a 41"6 Solitude. I went with the Curt 20 slider with the 24K head. Its very heavy duty and works great. I trust it to go over all types of terrain with my 5er. My camp site is off the path so there is a trail with curves, grades and bumps about 3 miles to get to my uneven site. No trouble dropping the unit or picking it up. The slider works good you can really jack it when its back all the way and it will not hit the tailgate ( in the up position ) or the cab when you are turned sharp.

Thanks. I have a 35’ Rockwood Ultra Lite. Do you think I need a slider? I was thinking I only needed a 16k rated unit, but I generally like to get equipment rated for more than I need.

Probably can get away with out the slider. But they recommend them on any bed under 8'.

You don't need a 20 k unit they are really heavy. My last one was a 16K with my old 37 foot 5er. It was easier to take in and out since it was lighter.

On my old truck once I forgot to slide the slider back and made a tight turn, the nose of the 5er went thru my rear window. It was an expensive day.

I went Weigh Safe for the rear hitch. 6" drop, 2.5" so it can be used on other vehicles since 3" is uncommon. 8" might be needed for really low trailers but can scrape. Search for a discount code before ordering.

Andersen Ultimate to convert the 5er to gooseneck. Probably go with a goosebox next go around.

I use a B&W Companion hitch and pull a 42' Sandpiper with it. It's heavy and stout. Definitely a two person job removing and installing it unless you have an A frame in your shop. Looking to convert to a Goosebox soon so I can have my bed free and clear.
