Ok, I had to think about what you were referencing, I think your text compared against the 2.5 PE 0-1.5. Not a complaint, just took some noodling to figure out.I just checked the Fox website and here’s the specs:
2.0 IFP 0-1.5: 18.5” - 30.11” (11.61”)
2.0 IFP 1.5-3.5: 20.2”-32.82” (12.62”)
2.5 PE 0-1.5: 18.35” - 29.83” (11.48”)
2.5 PE 1.5-2.5: 19.85” - 32.33” (12.48”)
2.5 HTO 0-1.5: 18.79” - 29.58” (10.79”)
2.5 HTO 2-3.5: 19.39” - 30.58” (11.39”)
I just measured my truck (2.5 PE 0-1.5) and I have 5-1/4” of travel at rest, which means I have 6-1/4” of extension travel (really good balance). The rear bumpstop has approx 4.5” to the axle, which makes all of this pretty much perfect.
A 2.5 HTO 0-1.5 will have 0.41” less compress travel (bad) and 0.3” less extension travel (also bad). A 2.5 HTO 2-3.5” will have 1.04” less compression travel (really bad) and .7” more extension travel (questionably useful).
I suppose if you don’t tow or carry high payloads, that’s fine, but I personally would never want to sacrifice an inch of compression travel. I also believe you are going to bottom out the shock before hitting the bump stop. All stock height SD aftermarket shocks spec a 19” max compressed length for a reason.
This is starting to look like the HTOs may not be a great choice for the rear of a F350/Tremor, but I get that the PEs are more than twice the price.
I'm a math guy, I love the numbers you pulled, thank you. I compared them to my stock 2025 F-250 rear shock (some years may be different). The table below works off of the values MFP posted above and give the +/- of it all (red is less than stock).
Bottom line: there is no clear winner. But I think we can all agree the ride is better than stock!
