A buddy of mine is selling his jeep. Forgive me, I’m ignorant on jeeps. He said it’s the more rare longer wheelbase? 2005 if I remember right. Let me know if this is of interest and I can get you two in touch. It’s located in Tucson AZ. This thing is clean. He keeps his stuff immaculate.

Edit: 65k miles

I really appreciate all the responses and PMs everyone has provided!! I may have a direction, although things took a bit of a tangent...

if you do find one your gonna pay for it
@Sccritterkiller is spot on here! It seems like the ones I would want to acquire are priced accordingly and/or still need a regear (~$2500).
I actually haven't had an issue tracking down some good examples locally... when I look at what I could get in a JK for a bit more, however, well it started my brain a spinning. I had never driven one so off I went and drove a few. In my opinion the driveability and ergonomics are vastly improved, among other things. Yep, they're a little bigger but that's fine with me.

I also fully get the fact that TJs are closer to the historical Jeep experience, but that wasn't necessarily all I was after... I like the TJ for the relative simplicity and the styling. Considering my better half will be riding along, however, the easier entry/exit and creature comforts come into play. I probably shouldn't have driven one :p

I drove a super clean TJ on 35s last wknd, already geared appropriately, and with a handful of other tasteful mods. If I was looking for something that was going off-road 100% that would've been great. Driving it on the road was ok, but crude. It was out of its element. 20 yrs ago it would've been a dream vehicle for me but I guess dreams change...

I think I already have one identified pending a few outstanding checks... pictures to follow in a few days!

Find a Ford 8.8 out of explorer in the gear ratio you want for the Jeep. They are stronger than a the D35 and then regear just the front axel..You probably have to get a new carrier for the front, IIRC the carrier break for the 30is 3.54. If you have to replace the front carrier might as put a locker in the front....Just Empty Every Pocket..

Well I can tell you that even the new ones still leave something to be desired on the road for daily driving. Got a week in a 2023 with the Extreme Recon package that rides on 35” BFG KO2s. Off-road it still lives up to the Wrangler name and was a blast. Quite a bit of ergonomic improvements over the TJ’s I’m used to driving (huge improvement on entry and exit) but must be getting older since would rather trailer one to get it where a Wrangler really shines.

Totally agree. This is fully intended as an extra vehicle. We are looking to move to Northern Michigan and will be able to drive to any trails once there. No plans to take this on any long road trips! :p

I have found I really like driving it around town to run errands.
That's what we found when we had the 2dr Bronco. We ended up getting my wife an Escape as her DD and she's really likes that... I could've kept the Bronco but knowing that it was not going to get a lot of seat time it seemed like a waste. While we are still in suburbia I'll drive the Jeep when I'm going to places with tighter parking instead of the Tremor. Plus it provides a top down option too...

Ha! I was thinking along these lines for awhile (Miata or Z). Depending where we eventually end up I still may do it. The roads around us now are less than inspiring to drive - both condition and path. Think straight roads with lots of potholes :(

I’d like to have an LJ. Little bit longer than the TJ. And when you find one, they think a whole lot of them.

Me too! Had a TJ with 5spd, 33's and trutracs with 4.10 gears. Followed a guide in an auto LJ with 35's through some fun stuff at a park in Pa and man that setup is the ticket. Effortless wheeling. I've since sold the TJ but if i found a nice clean LJ with auto for a fair price i'd very likely grab it.

BTW the JK's are insanely capable off road. go low CG with just taller fenders and big tires....fuggetabaout it!

A fancy one with painted fenders...Sahara? Nice looking Jeep!
Correct. Sahara with the 75th anniversary package which includes some of the Rubicon/Hardrock parts - steel front (winch-ready) and rear bumpers, rock rails, skid plates, power dome hood, Dana 44, etc. Unfortunately no e-lockers but it does have the LSD in the rear which, honestly, is fine for my usage.

32" BFG K02s... Funny, because it's the same diameter tire I had on my old Ranger back in the day. I needed a 5.5" lift to get those to fit!

Beautiful looking rig.

You can go to a little larger tire without too much work/issue. On my 14 JKU with a 2.5" AEV lift, I was running 37s. Adjust the steering bump stops with a couple washers and then made more room on the back by pulling the rock rails, trimming off to just at wheel well and all was good.

Send pictures when the JK is as dirty as the Ranger. BTW, my DD when I am in Colorado is a JKU Rubicon Hardrock with a clutch pedal. It has been a great vehicle since I bought it new in 2016. I think you will like the JK.

Mine was a 2014 JKU Rubi HR, with 3 pedals. Loved it, but needed something that could pull.
