Just throwing it out there... I'm in the market for a clean TJ. Fairly open on configuration as long as it has the 4.0L. If you have one you're getting rid of or have any leads on one let me know!

Interesting timing. My son-in-law called and asked me if I wanted my daughter's '05. They have a new one on order. It's red with a soft top, 4.0, and 6 speed manual. It has a slight lift and some rims and BFG All Terrains on it. It is literally the high school history teacher's car. It's in So Cal.

I’d like to have an LJ. Little bit longer than the TJ. And when you find one, they think a whole lot of them.

I would look at YJs too....they are usually a little cheaper and easier to wrench on yourself....you won't get coils on the front but a set of OME springs make them a comfortable driver...for Jeep anyways. After '90 they will have 4.0.

I traded my 04' TJ for this new 07' AEV Converted JK. As sweet as the ARB Lockers and the Old Man Emu Suspension the AEV conversion used, the 07' V6 was pathetic. Should have kept my TJ. I still see it on occasion, it still looks good ..

I agree with the 4.0 YJ. I had a 4.2 YJ (1987) and it was gutless. The AMC engine drank oil so fast I could hardly keep up. One day driving home from college I had a quick "James Bond" smoke screen behind me - and all ~5qts left the engine at once through the exhaust. I filled it - same. I drove it 2.5 hours home without oil knowing I was going to replace the engine anyway. After diving it for a week without oil - I replaced the engine with a fresh rebuilt engine - and it was still gutless. I had assumed it was just the old engine being crap - but nope. I kicked myself for not putting a 350 conversion in it.

The 4.2 in my '90 runs great...I put a Clifford 6=8 kit on it...Bigger intake, headers and Weber 38...every time I change the oil still has all 6 quarts in it...the 4.0s are good motors but they have there own issues...seen a bunch of cracked heads on them and chased a bunch of crank shaft sensor issues.
Were you running larger tires on it? A lot of the "gutless" in YJs isn't the motor it is the gearing, mine had 3.07s. Went to 4.10s..night and day difference...

That's good to hear! Maybe it was my youthful love for speed/power. I had a OEM 2 barrel on it with stock everything...even the plastic valve cover.

I was running 31" tires on OEM newer style Jeep wheels, so nothing obscene. I did blow-up the rear end and added a limited slip (same gearing - I think) - it was open prior to that, which I found surprising. I still remember changing that rear end in the parking lot on ramps - they sent me the wrong carrier at first and had to re-send it. The customer service was amazing. I was leaving for a holiday trip too - what a runaround. This was back in 1996 or so.

I will see if I can find a photo of the old rig. When I bought it it was blue. Every single thing in that Jeep broke. I ended up needing to replace seats even.

Agreed 31s are not obscene...but considering they came from factory with 27" tires IIRC and 3.07 gears...gonna make a noticeable difference in power if you didn't regear...I ran mine with 31s and original gears for about a week..lol
Yep all the D35s in those were open that's why the Ford 8.8 swap is so popular they came with LS.

There is a pic of mine in the other cars not Tremor thread.

The day I got it. I was also taking B&W photography at the time. Lol.

This is the day I sold it. I did all the work to it, and it really taught me so much about vehicles.

Sorry for jacking your thread, @Modman

Must be something in the water lately, because I've got a hankering for a TJ or YJ within the last month of so myself. Not like I have the time wrench on one anyway...who am I kidding haha

My high school daily was a black ‘87 with a carburetor and a stick. It still had some AMC badges in it. No radio, no locks, rag top. Heater was one of the best in ay vehicle I’ve ever seen…like t-shirt in the winter hot.

Two little stories…even though it was a straight six, it was geared low enough that it had the torque for me to let out the clutch at idle and then be able to pump the gas and get the front end to start bouncing all Dr. Dre chronic style. Everyone loved that shit.

The other one is that I quickly learned to jack the wheel hard to the left or right before I parked at school, because with it being a stick and a ragtop with no door locks, it was super easy for a few high school jock friends of mine to pop it into neutral and push it into the football practice field before I made it out at the end of the day. 😂

Loved that Jeep!

If you do end up with one (or you’re just a Jeep person in general) hit me up if you ever decide to visit the original birthplace of the Jeep during the festival week. And for those of you not in the know, Willys used a clone of the original Bantam Motor Company Jeep to win their contract with the US government. There is your history lesson for the day. Here’s a link to the festival for anyone who is interested and seriously DM me if you ever make the trek.

Still have a 00 Sahara edition that has been highly modified over the years. 33 x 12.5 x 15 BFG KOs 97000 original miles. Had it since I bought it off the lot. 4.0L manual trans. Have redone the interior with bedrug.
