I broke my shock

There's some clunky noises on my MY24. Apparently they didn't correct the issue. ๐Ÿ˜ค

The dealer just gave me a bill for $79.13 to inspect this and for pricing out mudflap clips since both are non-warranty items. ๐Ÿคฌ No upfront warning or signed service agreement!

Talked to the service writer and after he verbally belittled me with "I thought it was common sense" ๐Ÿ˜‚ he waived it "since he likes working with me" ๐Ÿ™„ and then wouldn't look me in the eyes for the rest of the conversation.

So he covered it? I was going to say, I just took mine off and could send you one.

He covered the $79.13 cost of looking at the shock for 10-20 seconds and denying the warranty claim. I still don't have a shock (that was another $290).

In the last few thousand miles my truck (with the truck camper in the bed) has developed a slight hopping oscillation driving up mountains so I'm pretty sure my other shocks aren't working great either or else I'd take you up on your offer.

Have a full set from my 2022. About 28k miles of highway use on them. Changed to Bilstein 5100s.

Thanks man, really means a lot to me that you'd offer. I already ordered those Fox shocks for it. Over the next year I expect to put on 30-40k miles nearly all hauling or towing so I think it'll be worth the investment. They were a pretty good price on eBay and then I had another $100 off coupon.

It could be the shocks, but it could be other things. Park your truck on a flat surface, press hard in an up and down motion on either side of the rear bumper and front to get the truckโ€™s suspension to move, do you hear a click or clunk sound? If so it very well could be the shocks. Also rotate your hubs from auto to lock then back to auto, this is not fool proof but itโ€™s a good easy diagnosis. When my shocks went bad I had sway while turning at speed and got a loud clunk on bumps. When I removed them, several had no rebound. With this said a trac bar or sway bar can also make these noises if there is an issue there.

You mentioned hopping. When I am off road and I floor the accelerator in an effort to fish tail, the truck hops like crazy. Is that a shock issue that I need to get looked at?

Like climbing a loose soil, sandy, or snowy hill and the tires spin finding traction? No, that's normal. Although better shocks will help.

Thanks. Definitely hear it in the rear end. It may just be me over analyzing it hoping there's no qc issues. I plan on going over the whole truck this weekend. Not just for this but to start the new truck love affair ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ & familiarize myself since I'm coming from a F150 non-tremor.

Dirt parking lot, loose sand, hard packed dirt road, all of that, hops like crazy.

Thats what im thinking. I have to drive almost slow to prevent hopping. Obviously I need to get it looked at

Sounds like axle wrap/wheel hop, shocks could be part of it, tire pressure, nature of the beast.... It looks like your truck is stock, but taller blocks can make it worse.

Looking at my rear tires, they have a TON of wear. I'm wondering if the hopping was them slipping... And not a fault of the shocks. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Heck I just always thought it was nature of the beast [for trucks]. May be torque in relation to grip. As in grip slip grip slip.. etc. Each grip cycle makes it squat & propels the suspension which then slips due to too much torque applied. I may be WAY off base. Any tire/suspension performance techs here??
If I remember right we used to get this effect with too much air pressure & slip on the drag tracks. [It's benn 25ish years ago. I've forgotten alot.]

[Edited for more clarity]
