BTW, it does all sit on top of a BuiltRight dash mount.
I got my power from my upfitter switch, if on the cell I can just hit the upfitter switch and kill the radar detector and CB at the same time If CB or detector go off. Both are wire to one stitch, very clean install.

It took several tries to get the mount just right so that the face of the radio was at the right angle in a good position. A big problem I had was that the CB has it's speaker on the bottom. So if it sits on the top you can't hear it unless there is some opening for the sound. That is what the big void in the center of the mount is for. Also the speaker for the ICOM is mounted on the back pointing forward into the same void as the CB speaker. The sound exits out the sides and bottom.
@Parksoffroad love the head unit mount! Wondering if you have any more details of the mounting itself.Thought about going on the dash, but ended up going with the head on the overhead console. Was worried about the heat beating down on the radios during the summer, along with the high visibility for theft. The morons around here break into cars for much less than a radio on the dash these days.
Ran wires for head unit and a dashcam down drivers pillar, radio body mounted on the rear wall behind the passenger rear seat. Added an external speaker under the drivers seat. Mic next to drivers seat within easy reach.

How did you get into the overhead console? Does it just pull down from the headliner, or did you have to drop the whole headliner?
What is the controller hanging off of/mounted to? Is there significant structure in the overhead console?
I need to mount two faceplates and thinking I might do what you did, but have them to the left and right of each other.
Overhead mount appears to be blocking interior security system sensors?
Oh that’s interesting! Definitely more intrusive in the passenger compartment, but no question it would be a simpler install. And easily handles both faceplates and handsets. Heck, could expand to my CB radio I’ll have installed as well
(Currently thinking the CB will be one where all the controls are in the handset, so no faceplate to mount, but still need to put the handset somewhere.)

That’s slick, except I’m going to have 3 handsets to position. So I love it, but don’t think it will really serve my needs.
One thing I did just learn. My VHF radio for Search and Rescue has an optional handset that acts as a full control unit. Has a display and fully replaces the normal faceplate. That could be a lot easier to mount in the truck.

I have friends wanting me to get an amateur radio license. Because it’s HF if I was to go that route and get a Codan, I was thinking of mounting it away from the drivers seat somewhere. It’s not going to be a radio I’ll be using to chat whilst driving, so I’d put somewhere else to reduce clutter. Maybe even in the tray-I have a canopy-where it would be easy to connect the aerial. Just an idea, and looking to see what others do. We have a flying doctor service for the outback (RFDS) and they have their own frequency that you can use in an emergency.
What make and model are these tool boxes?
Curious what tool boxes are those your using for underwater storage? They fit perfectly.
I believe it’s this one but have not bought one yet to be sure.

True but the pics in the post don’t look 13” to me. Could be just a color change for the same box. My eyeball tape measure is telling me those are 16 as the 13 only has two hinges and the 16 has three as in the original posts pictures. Also the 13” has 12 squares across the top. The 16 has 14 like the original picture. I could be wrong but I’m relatively sure it’s the 16”.

I scooped up (3) of these light weight Craftsman tool boxes at Lowe’s today to keep camping/travel gear stored in when we are on the road. A tool box, ehhh not so much. More like an organizer with a handle. The ad says metal latch, nope plastic. But it will serve our purposes...
