Ford Trailer TPMS vs Lippert Tire Linc

Agree with comments above on the Ford system. Happy with ours. Additionally, ours displays pressure and temp for each sensor on the console. And our dealer only charged $60 to install all 4 sensors.
Did you dealer install your sensors with your trailer in the lot? My dealer was pretty much not interested in helping with any of it.

Yes. They were very good about it. Was pleasantly surprised.

On my 2024 it came 5th wheel prepped like my 2022. I did not have to order another 7 pin special plug for the tpms system as it was part of the kit I bought with the 22. With my 24 I did have to buy another 7 pin bumper plug. The wiring was on the truck so just a simple swap the bumper plug, remove cap on wire harness that was in place and connect to the purchased 7 pin plug and install.

After that, the harness with tpms repeater and camera went right in from my 22. The learning process for the sensors was different between the 22 and 24. I looked at numerous videos on youtube and one was pretty close but left out a couple of things. It was a much easier job with the learning tool and I need to look if I posted up the exact steps on one of the forums I visit.

Here is the installation link that helps clear things up.

I’ll also have to pay for the new TPMS sensors to be installed which is usually $70-80 per wheel.
I had a mobile tire installer come out to my trailer and install the TPMS for either $20 or $25 per tire. Of course, I had the sensors already from the Ford kit so those are not included in my cost.

I love the Ford system. It has been reliable and stable for me. I echo everyone on extra cost as well as camera quality because I did TPMS and camera at the same time. I also don’t have another missile hazard screen. Even if you aren’t on the TPMS screen, it will still alert on an issue and go to that tire.

Thats a good idea, I wonder if I can locate one of those in my area

It worked out great for me. My RV is in a gravel storage lot and that didn't pose any issues, either. I've since used the same service for tire replacement on one of my vehicles. He matched the best price I could find on the tires and came right to the house.

Our last camper had the Lippert Tirelinc system preinstalled and I bought their expensive module. I used it for over a year and I would call it overpriced with spotty signal. Our new camper, a Grand Design toy hauler, has the same system but instead, this time, I went the Tymate system, pictured below. Over the last year it has worked great and alerted us to two different instances of spikes in our tires before any damage was done to our camper. The built in solar panel keeps it topped off after your initial charge and the low pressure alarm will definitely get your attention. It is a small box that sits on the dash with no wiring and my wife can monitor temps and pressures as we go down the road.

Anyone tried mounting the receiver on the truck instead of the trailer?

My old GM had the receiver behind the bumper and It still read the sensors without having to "wire" the trailer up every time.

I know it's just a second cable but still a pain if I can just mount it behind the bumper.

The cord and plug is the same whether you use TPMS, camera, or both. The kit is a lot cheaper without the camera and you can buy the camera cheap on Ebay afterwards like I did.

I don’t think it is that big a deal attaching a second harness, especially since you don’t have to add another screen in the cab and the comms are rock solid. The harness connects to a receiver that gets mounted near the trailer axles.
Do you mind sharing a link or more details for the cheaper eBay camera? Thanks.

It's not an Ebay camera but a Ford part sold on Ebay. You might be able to get it through Ford as well. Full disclosure I did have to cut the harness and extend it using shielded cable to reach the back of my trailer, but the connectors are correct. The part number is JC3J 19H391 AB.

I think the further away you place the receiver, the poorer the signal you're going to get from the TPMSs.

I ended up purchasing the Ford package (TPMS only). Pick up the new 5er Thursday, local tire shop installing sensors Friday and then I’ll install the module. Looking forward to it.

Still, $600 is a bit steep.
Peace of mind!

I have the TST system, which came with the trailer, but looking at using the Ford TPMS system (no camera) so I can get rid of the extra monitor. I was under the impression that the new(er) trucks don't need the YAW sensor (for bumper pull), and use that sticker and rear camera for positioning instead??

Just trying to figure out exactly what I need to buy.

Might check the TPMS before heading to the tire shop mine needed bigger valve stems than what came in the Ford kit had to get them from Nichols welding, great guy.
This explains the rim hole sizes, ask me how I know.🤪

I think the yaw sensor is used with goosenecks and 5th wheels.

The sticker is used with Protrailer. I have a 26 Ultimate Lariat, it has protrailer, if you have the protrailer steering wheel on the dashboard is the easiest way to know you have it.

I just finished wiring my camper with TPMS and the camera. I bought the kit with the truck. I think the TPMS uses the same 12 pin cable as the kit with the camera. This is a far better implementation of TPMS, I've had TireLinc and TST systems. TST is my second choice, tirelinc is hard to use, the connectivity is flaky.

Ford supplied TPMS sensors installed just fine in my camper wheels.

I have the same truck but with the 7.3. I didn't order the kit with the truck unfortunately.

Looks like I'll need the kit:
PC3Z1A189AB

The Harness:
PC3Z 15A416 B

Should be simple enough! More money out the door...!

Another vote here for the Ford system. 👍👍
