What Extended Warranty Should I Buy?

This is probably the most common question we receive on a daily basis. There is no one-size fits all solution to this, but I'm going to do my best to shed some light on this topic.

There are 2 main questions to consider regarding the purchase of an extended warranty. First, is how many miles do you drive a year? The average driver in the United States drives 13,500 miles annually. Do you drive more or less? Second, How long do you normally keep a vehicle? 8.4 Years is the national average for a new car purchased in the United States.

I would advise the average American new car driver to purchase an 8-year 100,000 mile or 9-year and 125,000 mile extended through Ford Protect. This would provide enough coverage to ensure they are protected from risk while driving the vehicle and contribute to a great re-sale value when they are done driving the vehicle and look to sell or trade it in without any outstanding issues.

What we’ve found Is the majority of our customers opt for a 7- or 8-year coverage and between 100,000-125,000 miles as their desired coverage as well. 50% of our customers opt for those terms and coverages.

Here is a sample of about 3,000 of our customers and what term and mileage they opted for when picking out a contract.

Hey Zach, I bought 5 year/100k end of 1/22 for $3040. Can I or would it be worth canceling and buying from you? I have 19,000 miles on my 22 Tremor 7.3L. Hoping to get a couple more years for same money. Thanks!

Zach,

Thanks for sharing that very useful information.

Yesterday (7/13) I replied to a email I got from "Ford Protect Headquarters" that was pitching an extended warranty, and a few hours later I got a call from a sales rep. I have a '21 Tremor 7.3 that I bought new, and now has about 31k miles on it, and is still covered by the original powertrain warranty (I think). I'm concerned about some of the cam and rollers delam issues that have arised on some 7.3's, and want to make make sure I'm covered if that happens to mine, because I plan to keep the truck for at least 8 - 10 years. My question is two-fold:

1) When I asked Ford's warranty sales rep if the camshaft and rollers delam are covered in the "Powertrain Care" plan, since that plan states that it covers "all internally lubricated parts (engine)", she said it DOES NOT cover those parts. That doesn't make a lick of sense to me, as those parts definitely are internal and lubricated. Is she correct on that, or does she just not know what she's talking about?

2) I don't know Ford's rules for how post-purchase warranty sales works, but how is it that you can offer extended warranties to people that didn't purchase their truck from you, and how can you offer it cheaper than Ford's advertised prices?

I won't get my truck for a few more months but I like this warranty plan. I have 2 questions: 1. Is the pricing on the link above what we pay, or is that ford pricing? 2. If i sell my truck before the warranty is up, do I get refunded a prorated amount? Or does the warranty stay with the vehicle once purchased?

The pricing on that link is our pricing at $50 over dealer cost.

If you sell your vehicle you have the option to transfer the warranty to the new buyer for a small transfer fee or cancel and receive a prorated refund for the unused portion.

Is the ford premium care extended warranty only available to the original owner? If I buy a 20-22 superduty used either from a non ford dealer or private party can I still purchase an extended warranty as long as it was originally sold less than 36 months ago and has less than 41k miles?

No, it is available for any owner as long as its under the original 41 months or 41,000 miles from the original in-service date.

We are almost 1 month away from Ford performing their annual price increase on Extended Warranty products. Normally, we have prices released by now, but no word yet. I would anticipate a larger than normal increase this year given the impact inflation has had on the cost of repairs.

If you're on the fence I would encourage you to purchase now before the price increases take effect on www.grangerfordextendedwarranty.com on October 1st!

Just a couple more weeks at current prices for the Ford Extended Warranty!

Do we need to have already taken possession of our truck to purchase? Or is it possible to lock in todays rate for when (if - ‘23 order that was rolled to ‘24h) the truck is delivered with the payment/economics of extended warranty taking effect upon said delivery date?

Yes, we have to have a delivery date for a warranty start date.
