Factory Winch install options

That is a good buy. Install shouldn't be too hard, shouldn't take all weekend.
I just know when instructions say 2 hours i end up taking 4. A gentleman who sold this to me said it took him and his buddy about 8 hours, and he is in the business of auto installs and such, so i figure on my own mostly, first time having to take the bumper off, run and test electric, no way i’ll get it done in 8 hours. But we’ll see.

I was shocked how heavy the box was. I would say over a hundred pounds probably. It is amazingly packed from Warn, the whole thing screams quality.

I think 8 hours is more like it. I just got mine put on a couple weeks ago by a dealer that does Carlie / winches ect ect . One guy on a lift took about 6 hours and he’s done a lot of factory winches so my guess there will be a learning curve

Great deal btw. I love mine. Really sets the truck apart IMO

@Alpoba Can you do me a favor and check something in the Warn control box for me?

I can for sure tonight. Please let me know what you need me to check.
Can you take a couple pics of the inside of the solenoids/wiring? When I do mine, I'm wanting to run a wire from the upfitter to enable/disable the winch control box.

Thank you! :)

Good idea, i also would want to take power away from the unit via an upfitter

Did you open the control box up? That's what I had in mind. Thank you again! There's Phillips head screws I think holding a silver metal cover plate on it.

Ok, but are you going to open it? That's what I was asking 😅 I need to run an upfitter wire into this box..

Only now I understood what you’re asking me to do. Im not sure its just those 4 screws, it might be the other 4 too holding the cover in place. And those wires are clamped down, nervous i wont be able to put it back together🙃

The four hex head combo phillips screws hold the plate (or black cover to the plate) on, the other hex cap bolt heads/studs are to secure the internal solenoids to the plate. Somewhere in there should be a small gauge wire jumping power to the solenoid trigger terminals. This is where I need to put the upfitter wire in series with it.

It's just the black cover that needs to lift off.

Can I PayPal you $20?

I believe I can unbolt the small red wire ring terminal inside the box and tie it to an upfitter switch and it will work. @Alpoba

If that works i will copy you:) Glad i looked inside, my red (orange) wire was coming apart, i added tape to secure it in place.

You're welcome ;) How would you have known otherwise?

I wouldnt. I imagined how i would feel if i took it all apart, put the winch on and it wouldnt work (electric function). Still could happen, but at least i now know it wont be cause of the inside of that unit.

Mine was supposed to have it on from the Factory but instead I will now be having the dealer install it. We'll see how that works out...
"From the factory" actually means the factory ships the winch on a pallet inside the bed of the truck. Then the dealer installs it once it's there.
