Factory Flaws?

Got a couple cans of this waiting for when the rain dies down.

Only 2 days old & I notice daylight between bed wall & bed floor as well as rust on case & shaft.
This is my first new truck since 2005. Is this a 'they just don't make em' like they used to' flaw I should overlook...is this normal!?
Ordered in Oct. dealer strung me along until 2 weeks ago when I got ahold of the KY. Plant Manager myself to get my truck built on my own. I JUST took delivery 2 days ago, swapped tires, got it home & now notice this.

Unpainted parts, even cast iron will rust, it's typical of any vehicle.

As others have said, this surface rust is normal on a new vehicle. If it bothers you, you can paint over it or go really crazy and have it sandblasted before painting. I doubt I will keep mine long enough for surface rust to cause problem, but I always paint the underside of my trucks so they look better. (and no, I have never sand blasted them beforehand...)

My 2018 aluminum Raptor has the same gaps in the bed, but it allows water to drain and has never caused a problem. If it bothers you, can can caulk it, but then water will sit in your bed at the front.

I’m a Toyota guy. Have been for many years. Their fit and finish is way better than Ford. I don’t have high expectations of the Fords, based on past Fords that I have owned. My first pickup truck was a Ford. I’ve had Ford vans too. They just don’t have the fit that Toyota does.

I like my Tremor. But I am wondering how it will be long term.

That last pic is front drive shaft. Bare steel.

Drive shafts are usually left bare metal for balance reasons. There are often bare metal components on suspension parts, it really is only a cosmetic thing and in no way compromises the service life of the vehicle. About the best thing you can do if this bothers you is wire brush and paint any non-moving parts. Anything that involves threads or parts that move or spin can be wiped down with something like Fluid Film or Wool Wax. These are lanolin based rust inhibitors that have been around for over 50 years. They do not harm paint, plastic, rubber or electrical components and they do not dry. They are also safe for skin contact and wipe off easily. If rust is present just brush off anything loose and coat over the rusted area. They will not throw off balance as any excess will sling off as the part rotates. I apply with a small trim paint brush or small sponge pad. These type of rust inhibitors must be reapplied yearly for best results. They will wash off in a high pressure car wash with underbelly wash. I buy from Amazon and get the black tinted formula. https://www.fluid-film.com/1618697237675.png

Your Tremor will easily last 15 to 20 years if maintained. Everything mentioned in this thread so far is cosmetic. The gaps in the bed panels are by design. If Toyota made trucks with aluminum bodies they would have to use the same techniques if they wanted to make the bodies last. Like someone said in another thread these aren't Camrys, Accords or Beamers. They are heavy duty on and off highway, high capacity trucks, not show cars. ? ?

The bed panel gaps for drainage make sense to me.

Toyota also has the surface rust on non painted components. Vehicles have had this look for many decades. It is different though when frames rust through and require replacement like Toyota. This is still going on because nothing was changed, Toyota is inspecting newer model years now and spraying a wax coating on the frames. Not a fix just slowing down the corrosion. Never had a Ford frame rust through. Toyota does make great vehicles but have many issues like all manufacturers. These frame replacements were a cash cow for Toyota Dealers and employees and have ended because of the wax based sprays now being done. my 2 cents

The Toyota frame replacement thing was one of the absolute worst automobile manufacturers flops that I ever heard of. Truly an embarrassment to Toyota. :ROFLMAO: And didn’t the early Tundras have some issue where the front control arms failed suddenly? A real mess.

I always wondered if Toyota had some weird electrical issue (anode/cathode) that caused that frame rust. The reason I say this is all my newer Toyotas seem to get excessive battery post and clamp corrosion. I have never had that happen with my domestic trucks. I had a Sequoia that battery post clamp corroded so bad it literally fell apart. Weird, huh?

I don’t by any means think Toyota trucks are without flaws. Did not intend to give that impression.

I didn't think you gave that impression. Nothing is perfect. Especially automobiles, with the number of parts used to assemble a vehicle if 100 of them fail the vehicle is still over 99% ! That is truly amazing.

That's why I said what I did about the heavy trucks. Every design has to take into consideration purpose, capacity, stress, corrosion, fit, drainage, cooling and slew of other factors. I think Ford does a pretty good job of addressing the critical issues and designing a level of quality and capability into the vehicle application.

Toyota doesn't make any HD trucks though.

all normal for the Super Duty.....

I guess I got an abnormal one. Only issue I have is the keypad is DOA. I'm afraid to take it in for that for fear the 'fix' will cause something worse.

Anyone use Krown (*anti rust protection) as a underside protectant? I did this on my last truck and it does work for the underside and rusting up. I'm dirt roads and in the MI salt zone.

'to be' Tremor due in June. (lol.... yeah.... Aug or Sept?)

Factory flaws... picked up mine yesterday. Just noticed this paint drip. Inside rear passenger door.

Don’t have time to deal with it now. Not sure if I should make it an issue.....?
