F350 5th wheel towing

Awesome! I got the 31mb cause I have 3 little ones. I went with the Pullrite Superglide for the hitch. So far so good.
Beautiful Rig!

Final adjustments made. Its not level but close. The Tremor squats a bit. I love the Curt 24 k sliding hitch set up.
It works great. Easy to R& R out of the truck with and the slide and lock mechanism are smooth and very positive when engaged. No issues with the tailgate either.

went with the anderson hitch this time around...can turn about 85 degres on level ground...air bags are on the way..

this is with tool box full and 45 gal diesel in the bed. (about 320 lbs of diesel and 200 lbs of tools and tool box)...im a lil over on the axle weight, but it will lighten up over 500 lbs with the rzr in the back...this pic the garage is empty. .squats the rear 3.5 inches..

trailer is 17,000

what is the payload for your truck? This setup has to be over payload

In most cases you'll exceed payload way before exceeding towing capacity. payload just isn't hitch weight but occupant weight as well. Have to take it all into consideration. Some will try to get around this by pulling "teeter-totter" trailers. To do it right you really ought to get certified weights of the truck empty, with cargo, and with trailer connected to make sure you're within spec.

My 350 6.7 only has 3278 lbs payload. I can imagine that Fuzzy's camper has at least 3500 lbs hitch weight.
I bet the pin weight on that rig is 2500-2700 you would be surprised
My rig is 14300 and is 2200 pin, His is a triple axle so there is a bit better weight distribution.

Mine is a 350 and it squats quite a bit, but no problem going down the road,
Agree with you on the payload there are many different numbers for the trucks and lots of variables Most 5th wheels don't advertise the pin weight only the gross and net

I think most people would be shocked to find out how much of their payload capacity is eaten up with passengers and luggage. I haven't done it on this tuck but we've weighed before empty and after loaded with the family, luggage, camping gear, etc. and we ate up nearly half our payload. It pays to weigh.

I’d bet if you went to Cat scales your pin is higher than that. If your trailer weighs 1430. Most manufacturers do advertise pin weights on 5th wheels, but it’s a completely dry trailer weight with zero options added on. The rule of thumb is 20% give or take

Dude I am looking to buy a Grand Design 5th Wheel....Which one do you have and What Hitch are you using??

I went today and looked at a few of the Grand Designs. Man those things are awesome. I really want the 399TH, but I think it’s too big for a SRW. I’ve never towed a fifth wheel before and don’t trust the salesman saying, “That F350 can tow anything.” The whole reason I bought my tremor was to be able to get a toy hauler. Booklet says hitch weight is 3,400lbs. Any advice on the largest fifth wheel toy hauler I can tow.

the best advice I can offer is to allow 20-22 % for pin weight of the actual weight of the 5th wheel. Then add 150 - 200 lbs for hitch , passengers and anything else you would consider putting in the truck. Then add Any weight to the trailer In front oft the axles . You can counter balance some of the hitch / pin weight with toys in the back of the trailer however, from what others say, trailering is different when hitch / pin weight starts getting low. Someone else may have better info on the counterbalance / pin weight adjustment for proper towing....
Just stay legal if for nothing else than peace of mind. Speaking from experience....

man I’ve been thru this whole thing. Just bought a trailer. if it has 3 axles than it’s too big for any SRW truck. There’s always going to be opposing opinions on this. But check your door jamb and know YOUR payload, there’s lots of variables here (trailer, passengers, cargo, etc). I absolutely wouldn’t trust that salesman bc he clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Just bc towing capacity says it is capable doesn’t mean you can pull it safely. I would suggest doing research on payload capacity and I also don’t know if I would jump right into a 40’+ 20k lb toy hauler.

i have my unloaded weight and loaded....which is why i know im over the rear axle weight....It's the same frame and axle as the 2019 f350 with 7200 rear axle capacity, the tremor has a 6800 lb axle weight due to the springs.....i also have the 11500 gvw for the truck....there are MANY factors that go into tow capacity....thus is my 2nd 40 ft toy haluer and we have had 4 total....i have also been towing trailers for 20 yrs, with our avg summer trip being over 4k miles....

i have towed a 40ft toy hauler from las vegas to maine..;) in 2009

the pic i showed is with nothing in the rear of the trailer....and this next weekend ill have the fully loaded weight....i even have the cat scale app because im religious about weights and tire capacity....i already know that with my rzr and 50 gal of fuel in the toy tanks that it takes 500 lbs off the MY pin weight

im more concerned about tire capacity as i tow in the desert in 100 plus degree heat...good news is i have run this size tire before in my dodge and they are rated for 4080lbs per tire in the rear, and im not near that....ymmv.

its what your comfortable with...i have towed with a dually...but all my other 5 diesel trucks over the last 20 yrs have been srw...

btw..with 45 gal of diesel and 200 lbs of tools and tool bix, with me and the wife in the truck im at 8660. which leave me 2840 payload...again with roughly 500 lbs in the bed.

I think you are over the limit mine is 3279 due the the sunroof, But these trucks can haul more than my 2015 Chevy 3500HD 4x4 D max by a few thousand and the payload it a couple hundred more.

Remember your stuff adds up fast in a camper...... food, ice, adult beverages, grilling, chairs, guns, ammo you know just the basics.

Don't trust the camper salesman either they are alway desperate to sell them

I have the Ford branded Retrax on mine and tow a fifth wheel with no issue (I have an extended length MOR/Ryde Fifth Wheel Hitch Pin Box on my Outdoor RV Glacier Peak fifth wheel).
