Hey all,
Before any folks jump to conclusions based on the title I am trying to figure out the big worth while differences between the two trims. I plan to eventually put my own lift on so the tires and lift arent an appeal to me. So that leaves me the axle vent tubes being longer on a Tremor, skid plates, and the front differential although i’m not entirely sure what the difference is other than a potential limited slip. My thought process with an FX4 is I can probably add the extended vent tubes and skid plates along with a lift and tires of my size and choice. Am I missing anything that makes the trim almost 4k difference?

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

That's pretty much it. The Tremor comes with the 3.55 diff but you can order that too. The front diff is a limited slip.
Gottcha. Yea, I noticed on most the FX4s sitting on lots now they have 3.31s a couple have the 3.55s which I would prefer. Thanks for the information.

Tremors come with 3.55? I thought they came with 4.30s. Or are we talking diesel.

If I were to buy a new truck today and planned on doing a full lift / level I would probably go the FX4 route. Not that I don’t love my tremor but I would have saved the coin add Carli or ICON suspension, tires and rims.

I don’t need all the fancy driving “modes” I just need 4wd. The locking diffs are nice but I believe that really only matters depending on where you plan to take the truck. I honestly don’t know if I ever really needed to lock the rear or front diff while in 4wd. I’m not rock crawling. I need 4wd for mud, loose dirt/gravel on steep inclines, and snow.

I’m a diesel guy so I don’t “need” the extra HP on the HO motor but it sure is fun to drive !!!

Good information. Yea I wasnt too sure if the modes were really worth while. I live in the south so definitely nothing crazy off road wise I couldnt do in my Jeep. I did track down a FX4 with a 3.55 locking optioned on it which is what I am looking for. I am also considering either a Lariat or Platinum. Platinum solely for the seats as it would be a daily driver. I need to sit in both but figured id search the forums for some feedback from folks already driving them long term.

If you plan on lifting, go with the Fx4. I went with the Tremor because I didn’t want a tall/aftermaket lift, but I wanted taller than stock. The bonus is that 37” tires fit even with the stock Tremor 18” rims. Sounds like you have the end goal in mind, so buy accordingly.

My F350 Lariat Tremor is just to be a pavement queen here in Florida. So being the Tremor looks good as is, I bought the closest to what I wanted right "out of the box" and Ford won this time.

Something you may want the consider is maintaining the Ford warranty "as is" as well as payload / tow ratings, etc. Also, at time of trade/sale, the OEM build value is easily established.

I was in the same boat. Like the tremor is taller than stock but not excessive. Is there anything you need to do for 37s to fit stock without issues?

i wanted a non-tremor because i would do my own suspension. i ended up with a tremor because it checked all the boxes. the several non trucks i looked at either didn't have the options i wanted or there was some issue with them (vibration, uncomfortable max recline seats, etc...)

I got the FX4 twice and replaced front springs with Tremor takeoffs plus proper Fox shocks all around. The only thing you can’t do easily/cheaply to the FX4 is the front LSD. The Tremor shocks are pretty much universally despised.

The Tremor wheels are kind of love/hate and the factory Duratracs are pretty unpopular. Basically for the same amount of money you can end up with way better shocks and tires.

Really it boils down to if you want a fender badge and to be able to participate in the TOTM contest 😂

I’m running the Toyo AT3 and I get a tiny bit of rub on the sway bar at full lock in one direction, can’t remember which. Others have mentioned that you can loosen the sway bar mounts and shift it to the opposite side by 1/8-1/4”. I haven’t done this yet because it happens infrequently and I keep forgetting.

I speak in Diesel.

Why would you waste money on a super duty with a gas motor?
Im looking at diesels. I have noticed on the FX4 the stock configuration is a 3.31 rear locker. I have found a couple with a 3.55 rear locker which is what I think the Tremor configuration comes in (diesel) variant.

Welcome! I'd say if you know you're doing a lift, different wheels/tires then start with an FX4.

For the Tremor:
Gas: 4:30
Diesel: 3.55

If the Tremor was available when I ordered my CCLB, the decision point would have been the front diff. If I were to order again, I’d still pick FX4 and wait for a front locker.

I will say I thought the trail turn assist was pretty gimmicky until I saw the video @Godzilla/Tremornator and another member (drawing a blank on the name) took on some switchbacks recently. Still not enough to push me into the Tremor package, and multi-point turns are par for the course with a CCLB anyway 😂

Been discussed a few times, and things may have changed since I bought my Tremor in 2024, but by the time I added the cost of power running boards, selling my tires and wheels, and the Ford discounts they gave for the packages it really wasn’t a lot extra to go with the Tremor

I like the trail turn assist. I'm with the others. After driving son-in-law #2's snowplow same make, model, year and color, the suspension on a factory Tremor is much more comfortable. I know you will upgrade your own, but I just wanted to get it out there. I too will get shocks, 37's and maybe a level, but thats it for now.

Maybe some Carli Leaf Spring Shackles too.
