Adding battery hookup

guess that's another reason i didn't want a diesel

factory on the 7.3 gas
The diesel version also has this setup on the passenger side battery but omitted the positive stud on the driver's side battery. Makes little sense.

Its so odd that they only put one in. Maybe because they want you using the upfitters for your power and these ground studs on the battery?

Either way I'm good with a $2 solution over spending hundreds on fancy battery clamps. The factory positive clamp even has a dimple on the lead so there's room under it for the bolt head.

Well, it’s done. It took a lot of work thinking about my next move before making it. Here are some learning points:
-Know something about electricity. I know nothing and now I’m convinced I can grab an electric pole with how many times I should have been lit up. From trying to pull a battery by absentmindedly grabbing both posts, to forgetting to remove a negative terminal, to completing circuits in weird and interesting ways with a wrench.
-talk out loud. My neighbors are used to it by now, but the old lady walking the dog wanted to call medics when she saw the bearded man with crazy hair and a giant hoodie running around his truck swearing. But talking it out and laying out parts first helped. Also memorize the instructions (but don’t just think you did), there are no videos of this going on a SD…
-pull the batteries. Granted it’s an alex honnold finger grip strength test combined with King Arthur pulling the sword pose, but a lot more room after
-hacksawing battery cables is way more effective but use a piece of wood propped across the engine compartment to saw on.
-hacksawing battery cables will make you have an epic panic attack once the first pull cuts through the rubber and you’re all in on a project that was approached with a “how hard could it be” mentality and not much else.
-heat guns take forever to melt the solder in the connection points and a torch takes .0001 seconds. You’re either stuck racing a quickly cooling solder or trying to make a good attachment while the bad guy from terminator two drips down your hand. Definitely bring a friend.

These are my main takeaways. If anyone is brave enough to take on this project with my experience level (blissful ignorance) and wants more info on what to do (or not do). Thanks for everyone’s suggestions!

Ps just overnighted a fire extinguisher.
