Adding 5th Wheel Prep Package

Why would you want to do this? I get if you're using a Reese Goosebox in place of a 5-wheel set-up for increased clearance of the cab but not for gooseneck towing. Gooseneck towing you want the weight directly over the axle.

I'm a 5%er too. For once I get to be in the cool kids club!😆

Right, The idea is to have the weight slightly ahead of the axle.

But if you need the clearance for off road articulation, it has it place in the world.

Some trailers are kinda designed for the 8' bed, and you need an offset pin, or this offset pin/plate, to make it work on a 6'6" or 6'8" bed

Ehh, I bet 95% of all SRW Super Duty buyers will never hook up a 5th wheel.
May be higher than 5%! However I have converted from 5th wheel to gooseneck with Reese Goose Box - which I would highly recommend for a Tremor, as this with 5" Gen Y rear offset ball you have all the room you need for turning radius , not to metion the quick in and out of the ball and it only weighs about 17 lbs. so much easier to deal with than large pin box!

How does the goosebox tow compared to the fifthwheel?

Was a nice upgrade in both ease of use and smooth towing. Between the shocks and airbag built into the goosebox the ride is improved and chucking pretty much eliminated. Overall I could not be happier - well worth the cost to upgrade.

If you are buying new trailer and don’t have a pin box then makes a lot of sense to swap out when new as the cost of the pin box offsets most of the cost of the goose box.

Lot of ATC owners have swapped out and are very happy and it does not void MFG frame warranty.

It looks like you have a ton of squat in the rear. Your trucks front is sitting pretty high. Doesn't look like it would tow too good. What your pin weight on that toyhauler?

Good observation. That is the day I picked it up - 5 lbs. air in airbags and no rear load in trailer to offset 3,050 lbs pin weight. It had 2.5” of squat.

I have Carli E-Venture suspension with full spring pack - which is 15% +/- softer than OEM springs for better ride empty. With 85 lbs. in air bags it sits level and tows good. With RZR in back it drops pin to 2,800 lbs.

However I still plan to either add overload leafs or go to Carli HD springs.

Towed it this week 450 miles round trip to Glamis with 85 lbs. in bags and RZR in back and it rode and handled well. I have the ability to adjust the shocks on the fly in the cab and went between 50% stiff to full stiff on rear shocks and found 75% to be a good setting.

Total weight of tow was 25,340 for truck and trailer. Front was 1,800 lbs. lighter than rear. So more tweaking is in order. Both load placement and springs will help.

Awesome great info. I've been looking at replacing my 5th wheel with toy hauler and was wondering how much the garage offset pin weight with a machine in it. Thanks.

Anyone here taken the leap and added the 5th wheel prep package on their Super Duty outside the factory included option? I know it is doable, and they sell the kit (for 22 and earlier models at least, I have a 23) on the accessories site. I'd like to hear thoughts on potential risks of this approach, if any. Thanks!

Edit: They have the 23 kit now:

My son and I installed the prep on my 15 F250 Platinum I just traded in. It really wasn't bad at all. Just make sure you get the right torx but nearly specific for the bed bolts. I had to borrow one from our local body shop. No one here sold it and I would have had to order it.
