What camera model number and cable did you find to be working ? I’ve been trying to do the same (24 F350 Lariat) but not luck so far , and I can’t tell if it’s the camera I bought or the fakra cable so your input would be immensely helpful !

From what I have read, and from my experience, I think a camera problem is separate from the tailgate delete harness issue, but I could be wrong. (And that said, the overlay guide lines that showed reverse path didn't work until I fixed the harness) Anyway, my camera and relocation kit came from Camera Source (purchased through and installed by Mule Outfitters in Tualatin, Oregon). It is listed as: CS-FTRSD-23RSCU. Relocation kit for factory tailgate camera fits 2023-2024 Ford SuperDuty w/360 view Camera included $471. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted out. The harness repair was pretty easy by following the pictures and instructions located in this thread.
Thank you, yes I am also modifying my harness because my local dealership isn’t interested in helping at all and they’re just wasting my time.
About the camera: my impression is that Chadx figured out what aftermarket camera and fakra cable model work with our trucks, I have been trying to do the same. The difference vs CameraSource is that this way it should be possible to make “kits” for $100-150 max.
I picked up my F350 KR Tremor yesterday, and it didn't come with a tailgate removal kit. I was looking around online, and found someone who had their dealer order one and the part number was PC3Z-13A576-A. Searching around I found that one as well as one listed as PC3Z-13A576-AA. Sorry for the slow response. All the cameras I tried were supposedly OEM. But the problem was the discounted "OEM" ones from ebay didn't work for me and were also hit or miss for others. To test, I pulled my tailgate camera and tried it with the aftermarket cheapo cable I'd purchased (to make sure it wasn't the cable) and it worked great so I put that camera into a camera housing I bought and put it on the camper.
Then I ordered a replacement camera for my tailgate. Same part number as the ones that didn't work but bought from an OEM part vendor rather than Ebay and it worked great. I installed that one into my tailgate. I think I outlined all that in one of these threads or on one of the other Ford sites. I'll try to find it and drop a link to that thread/post here.
And just to confirm what others have said, camera working or not has no impact on the tailgate ajar message and lost functionality associated with that. The '23s had the issue with all cameras bricking if tailgate camera was unplugged, but our '24s do not have that issue. But tailgate removal harnesses worked correctly for '23 trucks but not our '24. Go figure. Ha.
Found three of my comments, in this thread, related to the camera. Probably drove some people nuts with the camera talk in the tailgate ajar thread, but at one point, none of us knew if it was related. It's not, but seems many removing tailgate were also dealing with camera replacement, so at least related in that sense.

Note that this link defaults to both the housing and cable for around $200. If you want the housing only, you select housing only in one picklist and it reduces price to $105. That is what I did because you can source the cable on ebay/amazon for $18 rather than $95. Or hit the easy button and order it all through Bob's (even the camera).
From the below link, once you select the '23+ superduty with 360degree cameras, it's about $550 for camera, housing and cable. More pricey than sourcing parts from three different locations, but I imagine much faster/easier and more support since all components came from them. I assume they are including the Ford OEM camera, but I don't know. Worth asking them if you care about that, but whatever they are using, it apparently works.

Did you get the backup brake assist error message to go away once you fixed your tailgate harness ?
Yes, once tailgate harness was fixed, the backup brake assist message went away, auto-fold mirrors would work again with that option turned on, backup lines appeared/worked again, etc.
Fixed my harness today ! Thanks everyone for the great instructions shared in this thread, I am glad I do not have to deal anymore with my dealership. “Tailgate Ajar” warning is gone.
@Chadx on my first startup I still got the Reverse Brake Assist warning, did it go away immediately for you ? Do I need a camera plugged in for it to go away, or the system is entirely based off the backup sensors ?

I just pulled my tailgate for the first time and am having the issue where the mirrors don’t fold and it thinks something is ajar. I read through this thread and it seems the fix is to order the wires and fix the plug. Has anyone had any luck with Ford fixing this recently? Wondering if they are now aware of the issue and will take care of it before I try fixing it myself.
From following this thread and my own experience, it's very hit or miss, and mostly miss, with dealers even understanding the issue or being able to get any info from Ford on it. I ordered what I hope is a corrected harness, it should be delivered tomorrow. I'll update once I have a chance to try it out.
My advice is to stop in and talk to the service department to evaluate (or have them talk to to a tech). The more info you are armed with, the more likely you'll get a satisfactory result (them fixing it under warranty). There is no doubt it is a defect and it should be fixed under warrant, but you'll have to evaluate if it's worth the hassle. It will likely take at least two trips; one to evaluate/diagnose and one to fix. It's unlikely they will just let you drop off the Tailgate removal harness for them to fix as Ford will want them to go through the diagnostics for warranty work. If you are willing to bring it in and do it, that is great as it will be another example that is in the system. Even if you fix it yourself in the end, would be great if you bring it in and let them diagnose and dealership open a ticket with Ford. The more examples/complaints, the more likely they are to make the data available to dealerships on the fix. I don't think it's been fixed on the latest pickups being delivered. Will be interesting if it is fixed on the '25.
Nice work fixing. I think it took a while for the Reverse Brake Assist to go away, but I don't recall and don't recall the timing as compared to when I installed the camera. Was a long time ago. But I don't think the backup assist has anything to do with the camera; only the backup/proximity sensors.
It all depends on how helpful is your local dealer , dealers in my area were a total waste of time and not interested in helping at all. In my opinion it’s far easier to fix the harness (or hopefully we’ll find out that it’s possible to fix the updated post-fix harness
)Looking at my kits part number it has AA down the side of it, so I'm assuming that's the part I have not the A version. It definitely doesn't work with the AA that I have. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.

So unfortunately the PC3Z-13A576-AA is the housing on the truck that the PC3Z-13A576-A part plugs into, not a new fixed version of the removal kit.
Fortunately, I was at the dealer yesterday and talked to the service parts tech, and he knew right away what the issue was when I explained it to him. He ordered the removal kit through their system, and then he said he'll add the missing pins for me, and then once we validate that everything is working he can open a case with Ford about it. Since I have an extra kit now anyways, I'll just have him do both so I have a backup one as the tailgate will be off the truck most of the time.

My dealer experience went about how I thought it would. I gave them all the info from this forum and they had the truck for a whole day. At the end of the day I called them and asked for a status. The service writer said the tech couldn’t duplicate the error and even drove it around the lot (face plant). So I went through it for a second time and even sent him pictures of how the fix should look from this thread. The next day by about mid day they still hadn’t fixed it and I had a trip to go on so told them I’d pick it up. I ordered the pig tails from DigiKey and fixed it myself. The fix works great and the mirrors now fold in and it no longer shows a door is ajar. Thanks everyone on this thread who figured it out.
