Man it has been a long 4 months sorting out my truck situation after a red light runner totaled my MY22 back in September. After Ford balanced out my order for another 7.3L in late November, it took a while to decide if I wanted to order a MY25. In the end I flew up to Salt Lake last week to pick up this MY24 Silver Fox. Below was the maiden voyage to Home Depot, to get an air pressure gauge and air down the tires.

The drive back included picking up some 5200 lb Tremor springs from @04sshd and the best burger in Vegas with @Optimus. Great to finally meet some forum members.

Now that I'm back home in Tucson and have been driving the truck for about a week, I thought I'd post up my thoughts on the MY24 vs MY22.

What's better on the MY24
  1. The powertrain. The 6.7L diesel felt really strange at first (different power band) but after about 500 miles the power and torque really started opening up. More importantly, I averaged over 20 mpg over 800 miles! I think I'm firmly in the King Kong over Godzilla camp now.
  2. Vinyl floors. It sort of happened by accident that this truck had them, but I am definitely a fan now. I do need to get some liner mats though after noticing that the mounting pins are different than on the carpeted interior.
  3. The ride. I don't know if it's the added front weight of the diesel, the FX4 shocks, the chassis, or what appears to be a beefier factory steering stabilizer, but this thing rides way better than my MY22 on Fox 2.0 adjustables with larger 34" tires (both on 18" rims, same 5200 lb springs).
  4. The seats. They are just more comfortable, which matters a lot on long drives. The striping and perforated leather is also better looking. Note I did not get the Max Recline seats which I find very uncomfortable.
  5. The steering wheel. The button layout is SO much better. Little things like being able to quickly enable lane centering while you are fiddling with something and then quickly turning it off without hunting for buttons. The location of the volume up/down and skip forward/backward buttons being the same but on opposite sides is also intuitive.
  6. All the other buttons in the cab. They have better tactile feel and the little chrome lip makes them easier to find. The new location of the ProTrailer knob is a great change, although I haven't used it yet.
  7. The accent lighting. It actually stays on between starts, and they added mood lighting shining down onto the console.
  8. The electronic parking brake is awesome. I am so looking forward to Trailer Hitch Assist to address my #1 annoyance with the MY22.
  9. The touchscreen. It feels like an iPad and doesn't have the weird matrixed coating on the MY22. It is properly trimmed into the dash instead of the perimeter gap on the MY22.
  10. The HUD. I really like it for long drives and the turn-by-turn integration with Apple Maps is great. It would be nice if you could adjust it left/right and it's a little hard to read with sunglasses, though.
  11. The side vents are better looking, although I don't really like the sideburn look of the blacked out versions as much. I always found the MY22 side vents looked too small for the size of the truck.
  12. No ToughBed. The silver paint in the bed really lights up when you turn on the bed lighting! I just went with the Ford bed mat for now and once things are sufficiently scratched up I will cover it all up with Line-X.

What's better on the MY22
  1. The front grille. The new one is growing on me but I still think the MY22 Platinum grille is the best of the 2017+ generation.
  2. The instrument cluster. Ford could have done a better job taking advantage of all that real estate in the new hi-res display. The classic chrome rings around physical gauges just looks better to me. I also don't like how PRND and the 1-10 gear selector are right next to each other in the bottom left corner now.
  3. The dash. I wouldn't say I dislike the new blocky design, but that long flat top is a step backwards aesthetically.
The truck also has ProPower, which I have yet to test out as an emergency charger for my travel trailer.

While at first I compared everything to the MY22 I had lost, now I would honestly say the F350 has evolved for the better with this generation. I know, blasphemy/hypocrisy, since there are several threads on here where I mocked the MY23. I have also now used the new side and corner steps and they have enough utility to not really care about the looks. But if it was an option to remove them, I probably wouldn't pay extra for them. This is one of the reasons I picked silver with chrome (not BAP) so that the blend of black, silver and chrome is fairly consistent all the way around the truck.

I have made a lot of FORScan changes and can confirm that many of the settings work on the MY24 (including Unreal Engine w/ Climate Bar). I'll post up my final recommended list after a few more weeks of testing.

I installed and confirmed that the 5200 lb Tremor springs give about an inch of front lift. The codes are the same as prior years (LAM non-Tremor spring replaced with LAT Tremor spring). I am thinking I will put in the Fox 2.5" adjustables in the rear and take more time to decide if I really need to make any changes to the front suspension right now. I'm really surprised how good it rides. Need to get that front chin spoiler trimmed ASAP, though!

Last but not least, thank you in advance for accepting my new non-Tremor on FordTremor.com :)

Excellent write-up my friend and congratulations again on your new truck! It was nice meeting you; I agree, that burger sure was good.

As sad as I am for you to lose your Double Deuce, just know, you'll always be honored in the finest truck club in the world. Enjoy your new ride and may our paths cross again soon!

Welcome back!! Glad to hear everything got sorted and you’re back on the road. Nice looking truck!!

Congrats and glad to see you are back in a SD.

Forgot to add I miss the roof clearance lights on my MY22. They just looked cool, although I don't miss the truck lighting up like a Christmas tree at night. It was the one option I couldn't find without sacrificing other more important (to me) options.

Another thing that is way better on the MY24 is the cruise control settings. The old on/off/set/cancel is gone. Now when you turn it on it immediately sets the speed. The middle button is now pause/resume. So much easier to use.

And another thing that is worse on this truck is the engine bay. Apparently Ford only does first stage primer in the engine bay. On a carbonized grey it’s really not noticeable, but with iconic silver the whole engine bay and under hood is flat white! One more reason to never clean under the hood now!

Congrats on getting back in the saddle. Reach out if youd like some help procuring those Fox's.

Finally had a chance to test out Trailer Hitch Assist today and it worked perfectly on the first try. The combination of automatic alignment and setting of the electric parking brake is absolutely magical. The only thing that makes me nervous is I hopped out of the truck with it still in reverse and the truck didn’t complain, although maybe that is how it holds it in perfect position while you lower the trailer.

This is my favorite feature on the MY24. Hitching up could be such a pain with the MY22 due to the slop in the park pawl.

Any reason for not getting a Tremor?
The added cost for options I didn’t want or planned to replace anyway, and I didn’t really need the front LSD or Trail Assist features. On top of that it is rare to see a Tremor without BAP which added even more cost to the truck for stuff I didn’t want.

Originally I was looking for (and ordered) the 7.3L and wanted the 3.73 rear end, which excludes Tremor. When my order got canceled the only trucks that met my needs for the price I wanted to pay were diesels w/o Tremor.

Makes sense.

Just got some new Mickey Thompson Baja Legend EXP tires in 305/70R18. Was the largest 35" tire (35.1" diameter to be precise) I could find and like I tell my wife, even a 1/4" more makes a difference! Can't get over how great they look. Small noise increase but I'm sure fairly typical for any 35" tire and they have a crazy aggressive tread. Stereo volume at 8 covers it right up.

Discount Tire did a price match so I got a good deal too at about $350/tire plus install. They seem to have balanced perfectly and ride softer than the stock 33’s for sure, but with the added diameter and weight the steering is definitely lighter now. Time for the Carli lower stabilizer to tighten things up.

Looks great! I have the same wheels set aside for my '22, but keep going back and forth on them with the same tires you have and tremor springs, or going to a simple Carli kit with a different wheel and 37s. This definitely has me leaning a certain direction...

Congratulations on your new truck.

I look forward to your list of suggested FORScan changes.

I really love how it looks with those 35s. I'm debating on putting tremor coils in mine again and you're pushing me towards doing so. Getting more sidewall and a lower tire pressure is so much nicer of a ride.
