STOP!!!!!

When you're ready to stop, big brake kits are available to slow your truck down.

When our good friend and customer @bbrett said that he was looking for a brake upgrade, we got him hooked up with the Alcon Big Brake Kit. Designed to fit the 2017-2022 F250/F350 with 18" wheels or larger, this is one impressive kit. I'm sure you've seen his truck on the forum and it's definitely one fully customized Tremor! After adding his new 38" Toyo MT's, it was taking noticeably more force and more time to slow his truck down. With his ample around town driving for work and plenty of hauling his boat on the weekends, stopping this truck in a much more reasonable manner was crucial.

When will something like this be available for the 2024s? I was thinking of upgrading the brakes once my truck is back on the road.

How does the performance compare to the SSBC kits?

Also, any kits available for us running 17” rims?

Alcon already has the 2023+ kits in development now. No word on exact availability but development is underway.

SSBC is a well known name in brakes and the 8 piston calipers are impressive. Believe these require at least a 20" wheel as well (same with the Wilwood kits on the Superduty). We are not an SSBC dealer nor do we have any direct experience with their kits so cannot comment beyond that.

Thank you. Can you answer this: "Also, any kits available for us running 17” rims?"

Good to know. I'd be interested when this reaches availability. PS: I am glad I selected the 18" wheels for mine.

Thanks @OffroadAlliance for your help on this, and as always help emptying my wallet lol. These brakes definitely have a noticeable difference in stopping power, and I'm extremely happy with them! When I originally upgraded to 37" tires, I added better aftermarket pads, and I couldn't notice any difference, now with 38"'s and pulling trailers these brakes are game changers.

How much of this extra stopping power is actually from the change in calipers, and how much is just from better pads? I had EBC yellow stuff pads for my 6.0, and it made a huge difference on its own.

The reason I ask is that if you don't change out the master cylinder, you're pushing the same amount of fluid and pressure. So even if you have more pistons, it's still the same volume of fluid. I understand the rotors are slightly bigger, which would help. But I'm curious about what the piston area is compared to stock.

$8k is a lot to spend for a 5% improvement that could potentially just be from better pad material. Do you have any breakdown of how much each component (calipers, rotors, pads) contributes to the overall performance gain?

I'll let @OffroadAlliance chime in on the technical details. But I had EBC pads on previously and I didn't notice any difference from the factory pads. And it's significantly better than just 5%

@Optimus Pricey, for sure. Luckily we can extend some forum member specials!

None at this time that we are aware of will fit with 17" wheels. You're best bet is aftermarket pads/rotors and stainless lines.

Certainly just upgrading to aftermarket pads and/or rotors will likely improve the overall stopping capabilities of the truck. We nor Alcon have any published data to give the exact gains per component that you are seeking unfortunately. These brakes provide a significant increase in braking for these trucks even with 38" Toyo MT's. For those seeking gains beyond aftermarket pad and/or rotor replacement, these are the next step.

As previously mentioned, we absolutely do our best to take care of forum members.

Do you have any videos showing before and after stop tests for un-scientific results. Just to show the improvement on the super duty?

Do not. Customer did not have the opportunity to do any filming pre or post unfortunately.

how does the brake disk iron quality compare to stock disks ? can I use stock disks ? do I have to replace the factory brake line ? if I do, I prefer not to use zip ties to fasten the brake line to the WSS ? I would prefer not to do that.

What benefit do you get on a Jeep? I’m not knocking it just curious. Are you running large tires and want the stopping power? I can under stand a big brake setup on a super duty if you’re pulling a lot of weight and what not but on a jeep? Again not knocking your decision or trying to talk trash but…..?????? I mean if I was Oprah rich and had the coin to spend on upgrading everything I wanted I would have some super cool $hit too.

Wranglers have poor brakes. Consumer Reports, which I always take with a pound of salt, rated wrangler brakes “among the worst” — and that’s with stock weight and tires. I am running 37s on my wrangler and it is set up for overlanding. I’ve gone from an OEM weight of about 5000 pounds to about 6,000 pounds. The stopping distances went from poor to terrible. The stopping distances with the Alcons improved dramatically after about 200 to 300 miles.
