1.25 inch hitch adaptor

Guys like @Phil314 are what makes this the best forum on the internet. Great work on those paperweights! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I agree. That was a stand up thing to do. Things like this start to restore my faith in humanity.

@Phil314 really quality work. Very nice welds and design, works great for my dad

I realize this is an old post but since it was brought back to the top I'll show my set up.

This is how I made an adapter for my 3" hitch to 2" rack:

It is 2.5" angle 1/2" thickness from McMaster Carr. I would think if you can find 1.5" angle 1/2" thick you could do the same thing to get a 2.5" hitch down to 1.5". 5/8" thick angle would get you down to 1.25", would need to do a bit more grinding to get hem in the receiver though.

I put everything together, tightened the rack anti rattle adjuster thing, marked the pin location, removed the pieces, drilled the holes then had to grind the sharp outside corner off the angle, added a coat of good automotive rattle can primer (after this picture was taken).

Works awesome, rack don't wiggle, not too bad to put together. I also usually use a locking hitch pin. I like this set up because I don't need to rely on one of the U-bolt anti rattle things that don't work on the 3" hitch and take tools to install. I couldn't believe how much the bike bounced around with the standard sleeve adapters.

Honestly that is very well built. little triangle gusset, good weld beads, and slotted fit. I bet you could hold down quite a bit of paper with that bracket. The limiting factor would be the wall thickness of the vertical.

Solid design have to comment when I'm impressed!
