35's or 37's?

I'd love to do 37s, if not for the fact I can't mount a 37" spare under the truck. Taking a 5k mile road trip this summer, and I'd be nervous about having a 35 in spare in the middle of no where :(

Just my two cents:

35's if you're going for a 2-3" level/lift and you want maximum suspension travel specifically for offroad applications or you prefer the look.

37's if you're going for a 2-3" level/lift and you will not be using the truck extensively offroad and like the look better than 35's (i'm talking offroad parks/rock climbing/etc, not general offroading. i.e. situations where the suspension will be at maximum deflection/compression).

37's if you're going for a 4" or greater lift for all applications.

I am planning a 5K+ trip this summer to Yellowstone and I will only have my 35" spare. If I need to use it, I do not think it will be much different then driving on the "donut spare" most car companies use these days. I will place it on the front so the drive axle has the same size tires and only drive in 2H as far as needed to get my damaged 37 replaced or repaired.

On a side note, this happened to me when 35s were all the rage on a camping trip in a previous F250 back in 2000. I was traveling in Florida to Disney World and one of my new BFGs went flat from debris on the road. I drove to the Disney campground with the smaller 32" spare on the front, called 4-Wheel Parts in Orlando to order the tire, and continued with our planned vacation in the parks. By the end of the week, I had the tire replaced and was ready to drive back home.

Another RSI Smartcap! I'm definitely loving mine, did you get any of the side panels for the inside?
Yes, best cap I have owned, and I have had my share. No, mine is just win-doors. I need to access the area for the dogs.

I’ve heard that running different sized tires with a limited slip differential can cause a lot of extra wear on the clutches. Might not be a problem with the hubs unlocked and in 2H (front axles shouldn’t be spinning), but something to consider.

I agree and they also wear front end steering components more. So the addition of the dual stabilizers will help make things last longer.

Just FYI - for those talking about weight of tires: tires in the same size can vary in weight by a lot. Nitto makes awesome tires, but they are also just about the heaviest tires around. Their thick sidewalls and overall beef make them super durable off road, and a really solid towing tire, but there is a weight penalty. Here is a great site for getting all kinds of data on most tires made. You can click on a different manufacturer on the left, then click on any tire, then scroll down to see every size available with all the specs: https://tiresize.com/tires/Nitto/

Sorry for the dumb question...

I've got a 2021 F250 Tremor with 7.3L engine.

I want to keep my stock rims but upgrade to Ridge Grappler 37s.

Is this possible?

Do I need a Carli Leveling Kit?

Thanks guys!

While this is true, running them in an emergency for a short period in 2H will not cause long term issues with the LSD.

I’m gonna be real. Have you ever heard of the Folds of Aphrodite? Proportions matter. It’s insane how one inch of circumference matters. As someone running 37x12.50s I can say the only size tire that truly compliments the dimensions is a 38” . It’s aesthetically the only option in my opinion. It does take mad cheese to accommodate the right way but note I’ve ran 35s no issues on F150s since I was a teen. Take a look at my profile status photos. Almost isn’t sufficient. Like previously mentioned, go big or go home. 5.5 Carli Pin Top coming by November to accommodate 38x13.50s. Anything else unfortunately is subpar as far as “Folds of Aphrodite”
I agree proportions due matter, which is one of the reasons I upgraded to 37s. I think 37x12.5x17s look great on the SD when using the Carli 2.5” lift. The extra tire weight and truck height for 38s was not something I would consider for myself.

Not being able to utilize the stock spare location for a 37” drives me crazy too. I use my bed for other things so don’t want to lug around a huge tire in the back all the time and carriers ruin the esthetics. I’m anxiously waiting Carli’s Trophy hitch for this very reason. It’ll be expensive but well worth it in my opinion. I’ll be sacrificing my 3” for a 2.5” receiver also for it. Check it out.

The Carli website says 'early 2020'. Think they missed that deadline :(

I am considering the same thing for mine, but I am just keeping the 35" spare for now. If you get it, let us know if you like it...

No idea on the leveling kit need, but Nitto makes a 37x11.50x18, which is perfect for the stock wheels if you fret over the wheel width thing.

So, thinking about this a bit more. If we dropped the factory hitch, would a 37" fit in the spare location?
