Hello everyone,

I decided I would start my very own thread within the purchasing section since my other comments really hijacked another persons thread. Sorry about that - what a jerk I am - though the original thread owner seemed to let my social faux pas slide.

I plan to order a 2021 Ford F-350 tremor which I believe will be just perfect for little ol’ me.

I’m more of a weekend warrior workaholic guy who a few years ago married a beautiful woman who came along with two horses. I had two children from a prior marriage, and since that time we’ve added another horse and another child to our family. I think I’ve talked her out of additional horses and after sleeping less than I ever have (including undergrad state college days) I know we’re all done on the kiddo front.

I built the tremor online at Ford, and I am currently investigating xplan and Costco purchasing - but I currently do not belong to Costco and I’m currently not an X-plan member...unless you count the plan my X-wife wanted to be on! Lol

We typically pull horses with a bumper pull trailer though my wife really wants to have a fifth wheel or gooseneck and I have accounted for that within the build. I live in New England you probably figured out I’m in the hilly region of Vermont by now based on my username. I spend most of my time as an executive but love to get dirty moving lumber, hunting, and taking long walks on the beach.

I have reached out to five area dealers today and I have given them the interweb build data which I will attach to this post. Feel free to send me any thoughts on this build or any concerns that you may have that I have not accounted for.

Thank you, Josh!

That’s included in the ultimate pkg?

Welcome!

X plan is very easy to get - head over to Mustang Club of America (mustang.org) and buy a one year membership, and you get X plan. X plan is not the best possible price folks get, but it's easily the best possible price you can get for the amount of work it takes. And honestly, if you ask a dealer if they'll honor X plan and they say no... well, I'm not sure that's a dealer I'd want to work with. But for X plan - let a dealership know right away you intend to use it. It's not the nicest move to try some negotiating, and then pull out an X plan pin later. Some dealerships will be chill about it, others could just refuse to honor it and not want to work with you anymore.

My suggestion - pick the dealer you like the best, and you'd definitely want the long-term relationship with. Then shop around with other dealers via the costco plan or just asking them how below they'd go on invoice. If none of them want to move from invoice, or even insist on going over invoice (that was my luck - $2k over invoice was the lowest I could get) - then take X plan to your dealer of choice. Otherwise, take that best deal under invoice to the dealer of your choice and ask if they can match it.

For your order - I noticed you're doing the 11400 pound package - are you intending to derate for tax, fees, or CDL reasons? Otherwise the F350 diesel has an 11500 pound GVWR if you don't choose any of Ford's derates. The build sites usually only show derate options, if you leave it alone, you usually get the highest capacity. But that should show up as the 11500# GVWR package on your order sheet from the dealer.

Plus 1 on the windshield wipers for the heated steering wheel! Thoughts on the adaptive cruise control? Some people REALLY hate it. Others love it (I'm in the love it camp).

It is not. It's a bit confusing, and Ford keeps moving the options around with each model year, but it's how dealerships end up with $80k trucks with no heated steering wheel.

There's a dozen $80k Tremors in eastern Ohio with no heated steering wheels. Not that you MUST have a heated steering wheel, but for $80,000 it seems like that should just magically happen.

Also note - on Ford's online build site, you can't add rain-sensing wipers / heated steering wheel to the Lariat trucks. But it's definitely an allowable option that a dealer can put in the order.

I thought heated steering wheels were only meant for Florida and Commiefornia trucks?

Adaptive cruise rocks - i can usually get a couple naps in every few miles.

its listed in the order guide under exterior options and no longer shows up on the web correctly. It is not part of the package so just make sure to add it.

IMHO rain sensing wipers are the dumbest thing ever.
Lived in Seattle a long time - pretty sure I knew if it was raining.
Turned that off immediately on our Volvo.
I suppose that is standard on my Platinum? meh

I’m very happy I posted this! I do love a heated steering wheel. I have one in my current vehicle. I also have rain sensitive wipers - which are super handy when the rain is inconsistent...which is all the time here. Plus - a tuff guy like me doesn’t want to look like I “need” the wipers on faster than necessary. I don’t want people to think I’m a wimp...but my hands get cold the winter.
As far as adaptive cruise - I am not a fan (yet). I find I come up on a vehicle and slowdown to speed match. Sometimes I’ll sit there for miles before I realize it.

I certainly am more old school and prefer manual options rather than driving nannies - like traction control.

Looks like a nice build, make sure you add the heated wheel and adaptive cruise.

Also make sure your dealership has an allocation for a Super Duty or be prepared to wait for months until they earn one. Ask for a low priority code so they build it faster, possible a 10.

good luck and enjoy.

I chose the 11400 gvw during my F350 XLT Tremor 6.7 build, and it showed up as 11500# GVW on dealer order build sheet. Was not sure why on F350 on Ford site it has 11400 option if the F350 diesel automatically defaults to 11500#. I need the 11500# so not really complaining.

I think the 11400# is a derate option for states that set a threshold at 11500#.

I know Indiana treats vehicles under 11500# GVWR differently from those at 11500# and over. So could be Ford offering that option.

You might as well wait for 2022. Ordering opens March 15th, and supposedly 2021 ordering ended already.

Tailgate bed step! These trucks are 39" with the tailgate down. This version is all inside the tailgate not like the earlier versons where the handle was external and was loud going down the road with the rear window open. I don't know how old you are but you're not getting any younger and that climb sucks! On another note I have a 7.3 Lariat Sport in Iconic Silver and absolutely love the color combination.

The rain sensing wipers in my wife's BMW x5 are awesome. I never have to touch them. I'm hoping these trucks are as good.
They are! I love em.. set em and never touch them. Works great off reading when you hit water, you can keep your hands on the wheel!

Right now I am 43 and I am going to hold onto that as long as I can. Haha! I am in great shape (Ironman competitor / triathlete) but I hear you on the height of these beasts. I am an avid whitetail hunter, and lifting a deer into the bed does make me nervous.

My concern with the bed step is that I’d catch it on things. I figured the tailgate step would be good enough. Interesting about the noise. I’ll have to test drive one down a famous vt washboarded road. It will show it’s teeth on that drive.

pardon any typos - cell phone typed.
