Local dealer games

3 reasons come to mind off hand one paying more than something’s worth that’ll be upside down as soon as things normalize on the used end which is about now and two fuckin up the market for everybody and like already said enables shitbag dealers all which are dumbass things to do, now I’m sure there are extenuating circumstances out there where someone had no choice and had to do what they had to do I get that . I choose to research travel a bit and have patience for an ordered truck and saved around $10k or so off msrp

Thought experiments:

1) You own a hotshot company. You have a truck blow up. Your entire fleet is fords. You need a new truck tomorrow. You can lose a a few grand per day hunting around to make sure that some bro named Cux211 from the internet is happy with your life choices, or you can simply pay 5-10k extra for a truck that will make you several hundred thousand dollars over the course of its life. In those terms 5-10k is pocket change.

2) Again, you own a hotshot operation. You pick up a new contract with the oil fields worth 1mil. But to pull it off you need 3 new trucks by next week. Do you risk losing 1mil to make sure that Cux211 approves of your life choices or do you pay an extra 30-40k to make 1 mil?

3) You're just some random guy, with a wife and kids and a small business or a job. Lets say you make $40/hr. Low, but lets use that. If you spend 1hr per day combing the internet looking for exactly what you want to pop up. This very easily takes weeks/months to find the perfect vehicle with the right color combo and packages you want at the price that will keep Cux211 from coming to your house to call you an asshole. It doesn't take long to waste more time at $40/hr than it does to just pay the mark up for the perfect truck already sitting at your local dealer and save yourself weeks/months.

You simply have no concept at all of supply and demand. Supply is currently low, demand is high. Prices will rise. The issue is self correcting. Always has been, always will be.

Frankly, nobody gives any shit at all about what you choose to do. Its a free country. You do what you want, I'd suggest letting others do what they want. You don't get to spend their money for them because you have a superiority complex.

Honest question: Do you currently stand by the eggs in the supermarket and yell at everyone for buying eggs at current prices? Same thing.

It’s not ignorance sir it’s stupidly. Mamma always said you can’t fix stupid. Don’t waist your time. 🤣
I don't think anyone who spells the word waste, "waist" and the word mama "mamma" should be calling anyone stupid.

And there he is….you must be in hot shot. Considering that was two out your three scenarios. Original I see! Buy as many as you want. Didn’t realize you were the spelling 👮‍♂️ as well. I’ll be sure to re-read before I post since this is work related and all. Move along…….

Once I realized that the 2022 that I had a refundable deposit on, was probably not going to be built, I started calling dealers in GA, AL, TN, SC, and NC. All that I talked to, wanted $6-10K over MSRP. I found one dealership that has exactly what I want, and they were willing to take my X-Plan and the $2000 PCO that I got from FMC. That will total over $7k off of MSRP. If I were you, I would start looking hard in surrounding areas. Eventually you will find a dealer that won't have a mark-up. Good luck.

Good luck using both X-plan and PCO. Dealers been know to say you can only use one of them. Happened to a friend. lol

What do these dealers do when you walk in with X-Plan eligibility? Do they sell or do they not honor it?
I see you’re from Portland. I live in Hillsboro and was just able to order an F-250 Tremor at Kendall Ford in Bend with x-plan on Monday. Damerow in Beaverton jerked me around by leading me on that they’d honor x-plan, but changed their mind after I drove back down to the dealership a few days later. They told me I was welcome to email a bunch of other dealers and see what they’d do. Of course I was going to do that regardless of what that arrogant POS said. Anyway, Kendall was the first to say yes and I happened to be in Bend anyway, but Doherty out in Forest Grove was “probably” going to do it, and Courtesy Ford originally said no, but then said they would for a 7.3. So hopefully this helps you if you’re looking for x-plan.

I'm not a hot shotter. Just the first thing that popped in my mind. There are many more scenarios where paying more would make sense from a business stand point.

Key word Business! I’m sure the majority aren’t business purchases! You’ve made your point, now move along!

No, I yell at the people paying $7 or more for a cup of coffee and bitching about egg prices. That’s also a better a comparison. Comparing $5 eggs to a $95k truck! 🤦‍♂️ I’ve got a tremor I’ll sale you for 125k! It’s only got 21k miles on it.

I own a 20 tremor, a 22 tremor, and a 23 on order. All I paid well under invoice on. Thanks though. Your truck is currently worth probably more than you paid for it.

Men, all that back and forth and turns out you’re a smart buyer 👍! You got me there, I only got one. Why so many? I’d like to know your thoughts on comparison when you get your 23’.
I feel like I stole mine. However that was better times and I have a connection.

I got my current one from Damerow for better than XPlan. After seeing prices of new ones, $10k more MSRP, I dont see replacing it. I had started to talk to sales guy and was told he'd take care of me, but I did not follow up.
When I was shopping for the current truck the other dealers around here weren't willing to do much, I was going to go with one of the many Texas dealers that and good pricing when Damerow offered to order me one at that discount (I think 9.5% off MSRP + $3k Ford rebate)

It seems to me the market is cooling, those that have the money to spend on ADM's can do so if they dont want to shop around and save. Its clear that if you shop, you can save, but for those that want to spend a few thousand to not have to do the work its your money and its up to you how you spend it.

Our local dealer was adding quite a bit over sticker to anything they had on the lot. Now the tide seems to be turning and the overpriced vehicles are sitting. They had 3 Mavrick trucks that were on the lot for 3-4 weeks before the first one sold, still 2 there as of a few days back. Considering how hard people are looking / wanting those that says a lot. Last night a friend showed up in a brand new Bronco sport. It was on the local dealer lot with 8K ADM. They had shopped at another (non ford) dealer down the road and they offered $7500 for his wifes trade. The sport was not exaxctly what they wanted, but after a bit of haggling they got the sport at MSRP and $10,000 for the wifes trade. That tells me their ADM is not working out too well any more.

Hmm guess you missed the part where I said “I know there’s extenuating circumstances and I get that” lol. And you’re breakin peoples balls about spelling but evidently your reading comprehension isn’t perfect either just sayin. I feel this is one of those subjects that’s like politics whichever way you believe just can’t be changed and not worth arguing about. One thing I had to laugh about though there’s no need to spend an absorbent amount of time “scouring the internet” even if according to you a lowly guy only making $40 and hour 🙄 (a lot of people in my area don’t make anywhere near that and before you break my balls yes I make over that amount as a lineman) I found several dealers offering below invoice pricing within minutes picked one that worked for me put my order in and done

I already spoke with the dealer about it and he said sounds great. Just bring the certificate and read the offer carefully to make sure I don't need to do anything beforehand. But we will see next Friday.

Just a reminder to keep this conversation on track and dispense with the personal comments please. :)

@ccw has already made some edits, but we will get a bit more aggressive if you can't refrain from getting the last word in.

Thank you!

Thanks for the info. "Sasquatch". I am in the Seattle (Bellevue) Washington area, so knowing that some dealers in Oregon are being flexible could be helpful to me and others.

In the last day, two dealers have told me the "order books are closed". I test drove a couple of 2022 SD's this a.m. at my local dealer. Salesperson told me that the order book was closed for ANY SD as well as Bronco's. He was adamant that the order book is closed for ANY order whether for dealer inventory or a customer, and for any trim level.

Another large dealer advised via text/email that the "order books are closed for the higher trim levels and we cannot order Tremors".

Based on preceding posts it seems some folks have been placing orders this week for Tremors. Do you think the two dealers I communicated with are playing games or are there nuances that are getting "lost in the translation".

Anybody have luck ordering a Tremor with dealers in the State of Washington ?

BTW, I have Z plan and I don't face any urgency to buy right away. But I would be willing to place an order soon at Z plan pricing if a dealer would deal.

This conversation is exactly what has fueled inflation. Sure, there were supply shortages for a time, but people buying stuff way beyond what it’s worth is what keeps prices high. Then, companies are going to continue charging that until people force the price down by refusing to pay that “inflated” price. Early in the pandemic where I live, fuel prices were near CA levels. People quit driving, lots more took public transportation. Fuel prices came down remember? Oil companies couldn’t give their oil away — no place to store the glut. Same principle holds true for trucks. If they can’t sell them the price will go down. Simple economics.

True to a point, but some people need trucks. A lot are purchased and written off as business expenses, fleet buyers that haven't been able to get trucks for 2+ years are now dipping into the retail market to fill their needs, etc.

There's a lot more that plays into current truck prices than just "dumb people with money".

I should have clarified, ”except for fleet owner” or even construction workers or others who have to have a truck and depend on one for their livelihood. Thanks. Most of the truck owners where I live buy them to enhance their manhood, or at least it appears that way. They’re way to shiny to be considered work trucks!

Sorry to say I wasn't able to join the ranks today as local dealer wanted 12% over MSRP. And, while they came down to ~6% over, they also offered 86% of KBB on my trade. I promptly walked shortly after the 'sad story' about "we're not trying to get rich, just put some burger on the table :p"..
