Weight distribution bars

Started noticing that the bars don't lay flat in the brackets anymore. Dealer set this up last year and don't remember it being like this. Any suggestions without having to go back to the RV dealer?View attachment 55197
Never did like those hitches they’re a pain and noisy and don’t work that well if they come out of adjustment. I’d highly suggest the blue ox weight dist hitch. It uses chains which are way easier to set and hook up. They have a slight angle to the bars that puts more tension on the bar on the side the trailer goes effectively keeping the thriller from wanting to sway back and forth. I used to tow a toyhauler with my old ram 1500 approx 9k lbs loaded and I’d be doing 80mph comfortably with practically no sway at all.

Couple things to chew on:
  • Try lowering the brackets on the frame of the trailer. This will reduce the "tension" when coupled
  • Try removing 1 or more washers from the hitch head to adjust the pitch.
You may want to try/do 1 or the other or both to achieve the best results.

FWIW - I came from a Sierra Denali half ton with an Equalizer 10k hitch (solid square bars). I went through the entire hitch setup process again with my F250 and realized I needed FAR less weight distribution than with my previous truck. I ended up with a larger drop shank, removing a washer from the hitch head, and lowering the brackets on the trailer.

I also use the Blue Ox and it is far better than the Equalizer and E2 for weight distribution and sway control. I have 1500 lb bars with a 9” drop hitch for my 10K TT with 1350lb TW.

It does it’s job beautifully with zero annoying sounds when turning and backing up into your campsite. There are no messy bars, finicky washers or plastic silencers that wear out and it is super easy to install. I switched between two different trailers and did not have to make any adjustments to my setup.
