Not shipping. Happy to drive within a 3 hour radius of Seattle to meet up for hand-off. This includes the eastern side of the Cascades and down to Portland.

Giving away my old Diamondback Crossbin 13 toolbox. There's two reasons I'm giving it away for free:
  1. I got a free replacement from Diamondback, so passing on the free.
  2. It's damaged.
    1. The vertical "arms" have bent inwards a couple of times before resulting in the toolbox falling into the bed. This means they don't hold like they did originally.
    2. One of the vertical welds has a crack started as a result of stresses the vertical arms experienced.
You can see the full background story about it in my build thread. Here's the first post about the crossbin:

As-is this won't immediately fall into the bed; however, with mild amounts of weight and/or extra vibration from rough roads it's likely to. There's two main ways I can see mitigating this:
  1. Screwing the flanges into the bed rails. They can't bend inwards if they're held in place!
  2. If you're good with metalwork, adding gussets as I described in my build thread. This is the perfect fix in my opinion.
Even if you don't want to use it as an in-bed toolbox, perhaps you can find another use for it! Could even be good scrap metal if you're so inclined. I would prefer it doesn't wind up in a landfill, but if I can't find someone to take it either here or on Craigslist that's where it will wind up.

PM me if interested and we can work out hand-off. If you have any questions about it, feel free to post here in the thread so everyone benefits from the knowledge. Thanks!

Classy move @ccw

I think this would potentially work with other over the rail mounted tonneaus, correct?? Something that would capture the lip of the toolbox... Those with recessed rails I'm thinking would be a no-go.

Just trying to open up the population of pay-it-forward recipients for you to save the landfill scenario... :)

Possibly! The biggest determining factor is if the cover has bits that need to extend under the bed rail at the front of the bed, and whether those align with the lock-rod holes in the cross-bin.

Appreciate the suggestion, and happy to take some measurements for anyone trying to figure out if it will work for them!

I've had minor issues with my crossbin as well. It holds quite a bit of weight relative to it's own weight and I haven't had structural or functional problems. The only thing that annoys me are the rubber strips that go along the edges. They are constantly falling off. Additionally, the bin does slide around a bit front to back on more rough roads. I have not found a perfect way to prevent this from happening

I love my crossbin13. Biggest difference is i never put more than 50lbs in it even when it was loaded completely. It was not designed to carry heavy weight stuff. But from utility standpoint it adds a ton of quickly assessable space with side steps mounted.

Someone should take it from you and enjoy it.

Ya if you keep it under 50 pounds that will help immensely. No doubt I overloaded this first one pretty dramatically (probably had 200-300 pounds in it) when I first got it, though at least part of that was because Diamondback hadn’t published a weight limit at the time.

Glad to hear it’s working well for you!

Bump

To close this out, I gave this away to someone local via Craigslist.
