I stopped in to the Whiskey Blendery today. In the next couple of weeks they'll be getting in samples from barrels that are warehoused in Indiana and Kentucky. These will make up their barrel selection for the rest of the summer.

We started this project with a 95/5 wheat whiskey, then went to a high rye bourbon finished in a buff turkey cask, and then a custom blended whiskey. To keep bringing something different, I asked them to look for a 95/5 rye whiskey as well as a wheated bourbon. There may be also an option to go with something a bit older.

Our barrels thus far have been 8 - 9 year and we might be able to get something 10 - 12 years old. This is a great age range for whiskey when you balance cost and quality. 13+ years are personally my favorites. I don't mind the oak and funk of old whiskey and have some in my collection that are as old as 33 years. But once you get into the teens and olders, bottle price goes up really fast. For example, Russell's 13 is a $200 MSRP bottle, but retails for $350+ and many 15 year bottles are regularly $400 - $500.

So if we do end up picking a 10 - 12 year bottle, it may push the bottle price up from where we've been at with the past releases. I don't think it would be a big jump in price, and believe a few extra dollars would be well spent for the added age.

I'm looking to get the pick finalized in early September so I can have bottles in hand to bring to Moab for those who order that will be joining us for the meet.

Let's Pick a Theme for Our Fall Bottles — Ideas Needed by Aug 14

Alright, Tremor Nation — I want to get the group's brains working on something bigger than a single label.

Here's the setup. Our spring releases already have a built-in identity: they feature the reigning Tremor of the Year winner's truck (like @TellurideTremor 's rig on the last one ). But our fall bottles have no such hook — and rather than reinvent the wheel every October, I'd love to land on a recurring theme we can carry across all future fall releases. One consistent idea that becomes "our thing."

So think of this as Phase 1: the theme brainstorm. Once we've settled on a direction, Phase 2 is the fun part — we'll collect photos and run an actual contest to pick the specific image that goes on each year's bottle.

How other groups do it (for inspiration):
A lot of barrel-pick groups build their label around the whiskey itself — usually tied to a clever bottle name or the dominant flavor in the pour. I've got bottles on my shelf with labels featuring grapes, lemon-lime soda, apple pie, even Little Debbie chocolate cakes — each one riffing on what that particular barrel tasted like. It's a fun approach, and absolutely on the table if the group likes it.

Where my head's at:
Personally, I'd love to move away from the AI-generated concepts we used on the first two bottles and build our fall identity around what actually makes this group special — our trucks and the places we take them. A few directions to get the wheels turning:

• Trucks at iconic spots — Moab, Sedona, Big Bend, Ouray, the Rockies. A rotating showcase of members' rigs out in the wild.
• Pure scenery — a killer landscape theme, truck optional.
• Texas roots — leaning into our home-state stomping grounds.
• Flavor-driven — the other-groups route, naming each bottle after its standout note.
• Something else entirely — this is a brainstorm, so don't hold back.

The ask: Drop your theme ideas right here in the thread (or email me at [email protected]) by August 14. That leaves us the back half of August to narrow the field and land on a winner as a group.

Don't sweat photos or specs yet — once the theme's locked, I'll kick off the image contest with all the details (they'll need to fit a wide ~5″ × 4″ landscape space, for anyone already scheming ).

No bad ideas here — let's build something we'll be proud to see on the shelf for years to come.

I feel like we should stick to the trucks. It is, after all, why we are here. Agreed on the AI aspect. Let’s keep it real!

I like the idea of iconic places that Tremor gatherings have taken place. But I think there definitely needs to be a truck or group of trucks in the photo. It's about the Whiskey/Bourbon, but it's about the Tremor group as well. There were some amazing group photos at some of the gatherings/meetups, and I am sure there will be more at MOAB and future gatherings.

Being as it will be an annual “fall” release my suggestion is to have a photo contest (or use coinciding the TOTM winner if appropriate) that involves 1) A member Tremor 2) said truck in a photo taken in the fall-not IA assisted or generated. Vote on winning picture and turn into label.

Have separate naming contest either one time for the theme of the label or a yearly to go along with the photo and possibly outstanding flavor notes for individual picks.

Easy peasey. That’s my riff.

I would like to consider fall themed photos with the trucks such as fall colors, hunting pictures with the tremor.

Another option would be national parks or iconic sites.

Lastly, I would like to consider a USA themed to commemorate our 250th year on the 2026 bottle. It would be nice to have flag colors or flags in the pictures.
