Short answer: the Blendery can't ship, but I can. Their site lists it as pickup only, so you place the order there, forward me your confirmation, and I pick your bottles up and ship them to you. That's how we've done every release.

Quick clarification though — you mentioned ordering two bottles off their shipping list. That's a separate channel from our barrel pick. If those were Blendery releases rather than Reserve IV, they'll come to you directly and I'm not involved. If you meant Reserve IV, just forward me that confirmation and I'll take it from there.

Now the longer "why," since it's genuinely interesting and explains a lot about how this works:

Texas licensing. As a distillery license holder, the Blendery legally can't ship whiskey — only retail license holders can, and you can't hold both types. So for Tim to sell anything shippable, he has to partner with a distributor and a retail license holder. He's spent the last couple of years testing different outlets to see what works.

The catch is margin. Every tier in Texas's three-tier system takes a cut, so bottles sold through the shipping channel earn the Blendery slim to nothing. Locals and regulars usually get first crack at releases straight from the distillery before anything goes to the online distributor. They'd never put it this way, but I read that channel partly as a way to clear inventory — better to move it at break-even than let it occupy warehouse space they need for the next release. That said, some releases are online-exclusive to spread the love to folks who can't shop in person, which does sting for locals who suddenly have to pay shipping they normally avoid.

So why don't we just use their shipping partner? We probably could, and honestly it would save me 20–30 hours per release, so I wouldn't fight it if the group wanted to go that way. But remember the margin math — there's no reason for the Blendery to give up their cut on a single barrel pick done exclusively for one group. Run it through that channel and our $150 bottle becomes a $200+ bottle, plus tax, plus shipping.

One last bit of context: we're the only group I know of that ships bottles at all. The Blendery serves mostly North Texas and southern Oklahoma, so every other pick group is local — they order and pick up, or have a buddy mule bottles to them. The team out there has openly wondered how long I'll keep doing this. For now, I'm happy to, because it's what lets guys all over the country be part of this.

You sir, are a damn saint. I think I'll have to pass this time around since I've already committed to the pheasant release and the two bottles I bought from their site. If I buy more my wife will cut me off, or worse, spending on the truck. But I will keep this in mind for the next release. Thank you for the details and the opportunity.

I keep telling my wife that the Tremor is "our truck" or "her truck" - although she has never driven it and doesn't feel comfortable doing so. So whenever I get a mod for the truck, I tell her I'm upgrading her truck to its better the next time she rides in it. It's now become a running joke at @Renegade Customs Rockwall who is exploring witness protection options after I told my wife the cost of the next round of mods. She doesn't realize it yet, but she's going to love what I'm doing to her truck.
