Truck Bed Power for Fridge

Completely serious. Been running it on my LR4 for a couple of years.

Here is one iteration of it.

Certainly surprised - it sure looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing than what I had ever imagined.

How thick is the actual panel?

ETA: You might be thinking of traditional rigid panel. These are flexible, thin panels that attach via VHB tape. I absolutely love the one on my Rover, but it is significantly higher wattage than the first Super Duty one I have found.

I thought about doing this or similar to my backflip cover, is there any benefit to using that to constantly top off your truck batteries (underhood)?
Furthermore I guess why couldn't you or would you backfeed once the alternator started alternating?

Edited bc I read the link: It appears it prevents backfeeding already so why not maybe add a frame mounted battery if you needed add'l AHs and then just keep everything charged plus having copious amounts of AH across 3 batteries.

I don't run a lot of battery powered accessories in my truck that need power when it is off, so I haven't pursued it. In my Rover (an LR4) which has a notoriously finicky "smart" charging system, the difference has been night and day. I have yet to run down a battery with the panel in place (120 watts), when it was a constant concern before.

The solar controller that attaches between the battery and the panel takes care of any backfeed concerns. My Victron unit also has bluetooth which makes it easy and handy to keep an eye on the battery voltage and charge state.

In general I agree with your last statement. The more amp hours the better.

I saw on a website last year a company that made pre-formed panels for Ford super duty trucks that blended in really good. I believe you could do a center portion and or 2 side portions. It looked very clean. Sorry I don’t remember the manufacture/brand.
