Once you get that rail car number, you can call the CSX automated system at 1-800-235-2352. Just say "Location," read off the letters and numbers, and you can trace its journey.
I used my knowledge of dial-up modems from back in the day to program a dial string that called, waited for the right prompts, sent the correct responses at the right times (took some trial and error), and entered the rail car number. My kids and I checked it often and made a map of each stop. All we had to do was hit call and wait. I used the chat feature just like you said to get the railcar number.
Great memories of waiting for Dad's first new truck to arrive.
27 f250 tremor built and shipped ordered June 3 delivery approx to dealer Sep 19-24. Anyone know how to get ford to give me the rail car number. All I get from them and ford marketing is get with my dealer. The rare times I am able to get my dealer on the phone, he can’t see a rail car number but sees the truck moving from Ky plant
Below is my dial string - feel free to modify it with your info and see if it still works. They may have changed the phone tree by now.
My railcar was TTGX 996494
For the prefix, CSX’s keypad entry uses two digits per letter:
T = 81 → 8 is the TUV key, 1 means the 1st letter = T
T = 81
G = 41 → 4 is GHI, 1 = G
X = 92 → 9 is WXYZ, 2 = X
Dial string: 1-800-235-2352,,,1,,81814192,,,,,996494,,,,##
Add a comma if a prompt needs more delay, remove for less. Should be able to get it in just a few tries.
