Towing 21,900# w/ F-350 Tremor

If you chose the 350 Tremor, I'd shoot for 15% tongue weight and I would definitely install the rear sway bar. That is not included with the Tremor since as someone mentioned earlier, the Tremor is built with articulation in mind. If you only like the looks of the Tremor, you could buy an FX4, lift it and add Tremor wheels and tires to it.

In my opinion, it is the tires and the lack of rear sway bar that limits the Tremor's towing ability.

OK! . . . I saw it coming, but 57 year-old me was trying to champion the “I want it!” of that “screw the math” 20-something that still lurks in me. So, having pulled on my big boy boots, I’m probably going with an F-450 4x4 chassis cab; to get the tighter turning of the wider front axle. My dealer buddy isn’t going to be happy, because he is going to have to use one of his allocation units for a cassis cab . . . as I still want at least Lariat Value Package trim. His commercial guy can only get XLs from his upfitter partner in Texas. In the long run, if i make a real business out of land clearing, and not a hobby, this is probably the best move. I REALLY appreciate everyone's input.

With this change, my bucket list trip, to run the Rubicon with the Jeep I built (
), will go back to my original plan. Instead of a nice new Tremor and gooseneck, I’ll rehab my 2001 F-250 (only 268K on the 7.3), and an old tilt-deck equipment trailer, for the trip. I’m going to call my trip “The Replacement Parts Tour”, as all participants - equipment and driver - required replacement parts to make the trip! ;-) Maybe I’ll document it on YouTube and Facebook to try and help raise awareness of the need for more folks to register as organ & tissue donors. You can go register now as part of my Donate Life campaign @ https://www.registerme.org/campaign/fom. Lots of people check the box on their drivers license, but never have a discussion telling family they really want to donate. Too many families, in their grief immediately after losing you, can refuse to allow your organs and tissues to be harvested. They don’t want you hurt further. It isn’t rational, but they will be hurting. If you talk first, they can be prepared. Off my soapbox! ;-)

If I can get back to making decent money, I'll get my Tremor one day. Y’all have a great week!!

Yeah after I posted, I was just thinking along those lines..."why not a FX4 with tremor-like upgrades?". At that point, one could start playing around with bed length and type of cab to get a ton more payload and still retain a pretty decent amount of offroad capability.

I've done the math..and while it's <possible> to get it done with a 21.9k gooseneck @15% tongue/pin weight...it's going to be cutting it REALLY close. Like...how much does the OP weigh close coupled with basically zero options besides the tremor package itself and the 5th wheel/goosneck prep.

I’ll chime in. Just did AK to WA this week. 2021 tremor 7.3 gasser with just under 3700 payload on the sticker. 6 days straight, about 50 hours drive time, 2507 miles at 9.0 MPG. Did this towing about 12K travel trailer. 34 foot bow to stern. Had about 1K in the bed with about 1800 lbs hitch weight with a tuned blue ox sway pro 2000. First two days was a blizzard with snow pack and glare ice combo. Pucker factor wayyyy high and slow going. Next day 10 hours of 40 plus winds with higher gusts. Been towing boats and trailers over 30 years so have a fair amount of experience. That being said the tremor was maxed out for sure. I am racing to order a rear sway bar. Not saying the tremor won’t pull more but real world shit happens on the road fast. Alaskan highway is a torture test and the truck passed but with less margin than I would like. Yeah tremor will pull it but you have a real world chance that you may be put in a position that the truck can’t get you out of my friend

A non-tremor is definitely the way to go.

If you have a separate Jeep, why would you have trouble towing it with a dually to the Rubicon? There's no segments of it in San Francisco. It's outside of Sacramento, and believe me there are plenty of duallies around there.

Checked the box and my intentions are well known (donate every last part and cremate the rest).

Good point, those of us without CDLs

This is a little rant but a rear sway bar is not a standard on any SRW superduty so just because the Tremor doesn’t have one mean the lack of one is not a major contributor to why it’s not as stable. There are other larger factors effecting stability vs a standard Superduty. You have already pointed out the Duratrac tires but another one often overlooked is the softer rate front sway bar. Yes adding a rear bar to the Tremor will help but the non Tremor counterpart with a rear bar added will still handle better when it comes to towing stability. I love my Tremor but do recognize it has some limitations. The OPs F450 choice will handle much better for heavy service.
