Perhaps the most critical aspect of the conversion is the steering. Getting the geometry right to retain the steering characteristics is to me a make or break deal. Not having a LHD vehicle to compare to certainly doesn’t help. So I’d be interested in hearing of how close to LHD the conversion on my truck is.
The first photo is taken from a page where the bloke was having steering issues and what he thinks the problem is. The next three photos are of my truck. Photo 2 of the linkages, photo 3 of the pitman arm coming off the steering box and photo 4 of the idler arm. There you can see the pitman arm off the steering box, with a link that goes straight across to the left to the idler arm. From there, a link goes across to the right hand wheel, with the steering damper coming off near the pitman arm and mounted to the chassis on the right hand side. A link then joins the right and left hand wheels.
Compared to the first photo, the pitman arm comes forward, not backwards. The angle from the pitman arm to the idler arm looks a lot sharper, and the angle of the link from the idler to the right wheel looks sharper too.
To my eyes, the linkages on my truck look more like I’d imagine the LHD steering to be. But is it?
