Rapid road trip/overland-ish build

Very cool man, you got right on it! The stance & color combo looks phenomenal. I loved our GFC. Ten seconds to set up camp and keeping our bedding in place was really nice.

The GFC is a sweet package for sure, and I love the fact that I can still use it like a truck. Granted, now that I have the bed plate and storage I'm losing some utility, but I stuffed it full of hay and shavings just the other day and kept it all dry for a few hour drive. Trying to keep things fairly modular so that I can pull everything out with relative ease when the need arises.

Been watching that thread of yours, definitely interested if you end up whipping up a rear bumper and tire carrier combo for this platform. Honestly my biggest reluctance in going with the Ford over the Ram was the lack of legit, high-quality offroad accessories available, but that does seem to be slowly changing. I just snagged a 16.5Ti and will be going with an AEV front bumper, but aside from the Expedition One rear setup I haven't really seen much for the back of the truck that I like.

I’m with you on having the bed free. That’s what’s made it hard for me to pick out what camper I want this go around since I’m using the truck all the time as a truck. I’ve thought about making a palletized camping setup for the bed. Either a GFC or Project M mounted full time to the bed and with the bed normally free, but when it’s time to go camping just forklift in a ‘pallet’ that has the fridge/cabinets etc. and lash it down to the corner tiedowns.

I gave you a follow in insta to keep up with what you have going on, will for sure keep you in mind if I have any weird ideas.

That Project M looks far less primitive than the GFC, I could see it being considerably better if you're getting out for any extended period of time. Balancing that against the versatility of the side hatches on the GFC would be something I'd have to give a lot of though to.

Thinking of adding a GFC myself... Though haven't had an up and close experience with one yet. Are you pleased with the overall fitment to the truck? Is it water/dust tight? Is yours the V2 first iteration?

Correct, this is the V2 before they released the Pro model.

The fitment is great. The frame is gasketed around the perimeter of the bed, then the hatches themselves use seals as well. We get pretty torrential storms in Florida this time of year, and I recently drove through one on the interstate for quite some time. After stopping there were just a few drops of water on the floor of the bed, which to me is more than acceptable.

Dust does seem to be an issue for some guys, but I don't know if they're in the back of a massive convoy or just rolling solo and having ingress. Some guys have come up with positive pressure devices to 'pressurize' the camper with ram air vents and filters, but I'm not sure how effective they are.

Overall I'm very pleased with it, and by all accounts it appears that the new Pro model is even better. I love the completely unnecessary use of CNC machined aluminum everywhere possible, plus the fact that it's made in the USA by a solid group of people adds to the appeal for me.

Clearly I suck at updating this thread, but we hit the road about a month ago and have covered quite a bit of ground. We ran all across the southwest, up into Central California and then hauled ass to Montana to park the truck for a few weeks and catch up on life in FL.

Truck has been performing flawlessly and we've put it through a lot. My only gripe is the dust ingress with the GFC, so that's on the list of things to solve, for such a hasty build everything has worked incredibly well.

Says the factory hitch is ommited. Does it actually get/ need to get removed? Guess this would allow for a fourth full size spare if its removed. I am digging this a little more than Expedition One I was about to pull the trigger on.

You may not have a way to raise, lower, or secure the spare with the Buckstop. Unless they added a keyhole for the tire winch line.

Not to derail here, but I recently went with Exped One for my GX 460 rear bumper and sliders. I have run their products on multiple builds with success in the past. This one has been a nightmare and zero help from Exped One. I would avoid. Their QC has fallen off a cliff. DM me if you want more details.

All true. Terrible experience this time and they could care less. $7k in bumper/sliders with the worst powder coat you have ever seen. Plus the wrong hardware 2x, wrong reverse sensor gaskets, wrong camera harness. Once I rectified all that out of pocket, the rear bumper did not fit with the Long Range America tank as they advertise and stated in an email. Thor had to take off the rear bumper and tire carrier and do extensive mods to make it fit. Total shitshow and would not take Exped One products if they were free again.

Yea the factory hitch has to get removed. the buckstop bumper uses those bolt holes to mount up.

but the receiver is 2.5" not 2" like the website says.

Yep, there is a cutout to access that winch. I put my spare tire back in the factory location after mounting the bumper.
