1. FRPP kit came damaged from Borla. Shop had already taken my truck apart so they installed it anyway. Tone was great at start up and part throttle, a bit quiet up top. Tips were misaligned and rattled badly any the mid-pipe wouldn’t stay tight due to how Borla cut the pipe and the Ford OEM locator nub. Given those issues they swapped it out for a S-type.

2. S-type also comes damaged, this time from expanding foam pushing pipe into muffler can and denting can again. Borla sending a replacement can eventually. Shop installs it anyway.

3. S-type replaces the forward muffler with a y-pipe and smaller muffler. Rear muffler is larger than FRPP kit. Tail pipe is of course single 3.5” vs FRPP y-pipe. Unsure if the tone differences are due to Y-pipe and front muffler, rear muffler, or the Y-pipe tail pipe or all 3z

S-type is a smoother more blended sound at start and low rpm. It’s actually quieter. Up top it’s louder, but it takes on this cheap “rat a tat tat tat” sound that FRPP didn’t have.

Actually contemplating just buying another FRPP kit and doing a turn down tip.

Borla’s Atak clip it’s even worse.

Yes, the exhaust note above 3000! at near-wide-open throttle is best described as "raspy", but when pulling a load at 70 MPH up a good grade, under and through an overpass where the blatting echoes back, it puts a grin on my face.

And I like quieter exhausts. Overall, I'm pretty happy w/ the performance of my Borla S-Type single 3.5" system. My Godzilla runs like a raped ape! when I tip into it.

The only way to tone the overall noise decibels down is to add an 18" long, 3.5" diameter Borla X-1 race muffler in place of the straight 3.5" mid-pipe. I have one ready for when I might want to install it.

I don’t want it quieter… I want that cheap “I had the muffler shop install these glass packs” sound gone over 4K. Sounds nice mid range 2-4K, over 4K sounds really cheap.

I guess it won’t go away after breaking in more.

Wonder how the FFRP rear section would sound mated to the Borla front.

I suspect there’s some tuning in that chambered front muffler that mitigates some of the odd stuff.

LOL El Don Matteo, my friend! :ROFLMAO:

My deets have not changed since I joined, only my custom title.

7.3 all the way, baby!

I made a living in Peterbilts, Kenworths and Powerstrokes in F550s.

Once I retired, I no longer needed diesel for what I do which is have more than enough truck (as I had been spoiled by during my career) to tow sub-10,000 lb RV trailers. The 500/500 Godzilla is just fine.

I'm still laughing. You're too funny! :ROFLMAO: (y) 🏁

The FRPP/Borla leaves alone that factory headpipes' collector/resonator, yes, and that is a flow dam. The Borla Y is what promotes torque and power.

You have the option of replacing the Borla free-flow mufflers w/ a chambered muffler of known technical quality, Flowmaster.

Try a Series 70 in 3.5" in/out. It's huge, and you can keep any existing resonator if it's elsewhere, like the Borla just after the Y collector.

That's all I got (and that kind of system is all I've used on other vehicles).

I remember the good old days where people wanted to be fit and not just skinny.

I hear going to the gym regularly and eating sensibly still actually works, believe it or not!

Also this thread is interesting. I have a FRPP (both P/Ns) exhaust in the garage in a box (along with everything else, I know, I have a problem). I really wanted the dual tips, and the more conservative sound, choosing those pros over the modest performance gains of the full cat-back, and the FRPP con of only a partial system that looks... unfinished when installed.

But, I started going down a rabbit hole to see if I could pair the FRPP version with the mid-to-cat portion of the S-type where the FRPP leaves off in order to have the best of both worlds. Sounds like you're thinking that way as well, so I'm watching closely.

Have you tried to mate the FRPP rear muffler with the rest of the S-type?
